I was quite happily managing with a mainstream sound monitor until my baby was 4 months old. As soon as my daughter learnt to roll, I could no longer get her to sleep on her back. This in itself was concerning enough for a first time mum, especially with all the current SIDS guidelines, but what made it worse was that my little girl would insist on trying to sleep face down on the mattress...meaning mummy up all night watching her like a hawk & darling daughter having fingers poked up her nose whilst mummy constantly checked how near her nose was to the mattress.
So, to give myself some peace of mind I bought this monitor.
I have read other reviews about how the instructions are hard to follow, but can honestly say I found them extremely easy to grasp. Also, people have also mis-read the instructions & think that you can't use this monitor with a foam mattress...the guidance actually states it should not be used with a memory foam mattress, which is a completely different thing.
Anybody with a Stokke cot will not have to place wood under the mattress as advised, as the base of Stokke cots are solid, not slatted.
The first night I used this monitor the alarm set off & I checked my daughter to find her (yet again) face down in the mattress. Whether or not she had actually stopped breathing is debatable, but I really appreciated the warning this monitor gave me & was able to move her into another position. My daughter is also sleeping alot better as she is not constantly being disturbed by me & feel happier leaving her in bed alone.
I would like to point out that my child is a real wriggler in the night & this monitor captures her movements anywhere in the cot. It is well worth the money.
