It's tough being a parent. You can't help but worry about your baby, even when they are sleeping soundly, but Angelcare can help remove some of that concern with the AC401 baby monitor. This 2-in-1 monitor detects sound and movement, perfect for first-time parents or those with more than one child sleeping in a room.

The Angelcare AC401 2-in-1 Movement & Sound Baby Monitor watches over your baby when you can't. The combination of two frequencies and eight channels provides crystal clear transmission and optimal privacy. The portable LCD colour parent unit clearly displays the temperature of the baby alongside the activated features.

Features include temperature control, an out of range indicator. The recognisable Angelcare halo on the nursery unit also acts as a soothing nightlight, allowing you to check on your baby with minimal disruption. The monitor can also be mains or battery operated.

Features and benefits

  • Under-the-mattress SensorPad: The SensorPad monitors all your baby's movements, even the slightest ones. An alarm will sound if no movement has been detected for 20 seconds, and it features variable sensitivity settings. The SensorPad can be used with most baby mattresses, however it cannot be used with memory foam mattresses or mattresses with hollow frames.
  • Crystal clear transmission: Enjoy crystal clear sound transmission with eight channels.
  • Portable and rechargeable parent unit: Clip the small portable parent unit to your belt and monitor your baby on the go.

  • Temperature display and control: The temperature in the baby's room is monitored and displayed on the parent unit, and an alarm will sound if the temperature is too high or too low.
  • Volume control and vibration alert: Adjust the sound levels to suit you, and monitor your baby even with the sound off in vibration mode.
  • Full colour digital display: The colour LCD screen on the parent unit clearly displays a number of monitoring features, so even if the sound is off you'll know what's going on.
  • Hold and mute: The sound and movement alarm can be temporarily deactivated, helpful for example if you need to feed or change your baby.
  • Voice-activated sound monitoring: The Angelcare system monitors by using voice-activated sound monitoring. Microphone sensitivity is adjustable, so you can hear all sounds in baby's room or just when baby cries.
  • Audio 'tic' feature: The optional 'tic' sound feature reassures you that the monitor is working even when your baby is sleeping silently.
  • Nursery nightlight: The halo on the nursery unit acts as a soothing nightlight which allows you to check on your baby with minimal disruption.
  • Batteries or mains-operated: In case of power failure, the monitor reverts to batteries automatically.
  • Out of range indicator: The out of range indicator function will advise you when the two units are not communicating with each other. Out of range situations can be caused by distance or by physical interferences.
  • Following media coverage regarding a voluntary product recall in the United States and Canada, Angelcare would like to explain to all customers why there is no recall required in Europe. We bought this for our newborn son as a replacement for our other one which gets interference on it. We also wanted one with the sensor pad on it for peace of mind and so I could sleep without fear of SIDS happening.

This product would most definetely get 5 stars if it weren't for a couple of things that can annoy you.

Setup was a little difficult at first but once you get the hang of it it's OK. During initial setup I kept setting off the sensor pad alarm off even though it wasn't plugged in! It took me a little while to figure that out and turn it off using the receiver. Once I realised that I understood what a useful feature it is, and how useful it is to be able to change all of the settings remotely without having to do it at the sender end. I found most of the features on this unit to be useful and an improvement on our old system. It also came with two receivers which meant we could leave one upstairs in our room and one downstairs permanently. However as with everything it's not perfect, I find that when getting up to see to the baby during the night one tends to forget to turn off the sensor pad (or pause it sensing) on the receiver before you get up and wander off to lift the baby out of the cot and tend to them. Once you do that you get a warning sound to signify that the unit can't sense the baby and shortly thereafter all hell breaks loose with the alarm on the sender and receiver end (which is a good thing and what it is designed to do). Just turn off the sender I hear you say but that makes the receiver end bleep to signal it's lost the reception, which wakes up the other half and now the whole house is awake. In short it would be nice to deactivate the sensor pad alarm from the sender unit as well for sleepy headed parents an auto-pilot. Other than that it is still a great buy and would have got the full 5 stars.

What a task finding baby monitors is!!!! I did so much research but I really feel it paid off with this monitor. Firstly, who the hell needs a monitor with video? It's just insane to assume that you'll sit there all night looking at a 3 inch screen when you might as well just stand by the cot all night. The Angelcare saves you on this one because the movement sensor pad will tell you if there's something you need to deal with quickly. I was worried about false alarms, but after 3 weeks of using this we've not had one false start. I even ran some hardcore tests where I literally just stroked my fingers over the surface of the mattress and this thing picks it up. I then got paranoid and thought if it was this sensitive then surely it might mistake someone playing music loudly downstairs for heartbeat movement in the cot, so I did some jumping up and down next to the cot and it didn't pick that up - perfect, despite how dumb I looked at the time!

The handheld is nice and slick with a good user interface and shows the room temperature (not that I pay much attention to room thermometers - you know if it's too hot for crying out loud). It also doesn't contantly monitor the audio (which in other monitors means you sit in your living room listening to static hiss all night). This is clever by only playing audio when it detects baby crying. If the baby stops crying it will leave the audio channel open for a minute afterwards. You can also set alerts for if the temperature drops below or goes above a certain point (which you set yourself).

This morning our 7 week old daughter was sleeping in her cot, and the alarm went off. We both legged it upstairs and resuscitated her. I honestly believe this device just saved my daughters life, and can't recommend it enough.

Size: Deluxe Parent Unit Verified Purchase
After a very scary 'near miss' with our little 3 month old (I checked on him when sleeping and he wasn't breathing - thankfully he was revived with CPR) it was recommended that I purchase the Angelcare monitors. What can I say, they are great. They have given me great peace of mind and are very easy to work. I have used them with the cot and also a travel cot and have had no problems. Wished I had known about them earlier.

We bought an Angel monitor to replaced a video monitor. We realised that the video monitor you can watch when you're awake, and sometimes your baby doesn't move for a while, so we ended up jumping up to check on the little one.
When you're asleep, you can't watch video monitors either. So we bought this Angel monitor, and it did exactly what we wanted.

People comment about the constant gentle beep, but we found this ok after a week or two.

The twin monitors help with having one downstairs and the other upstairs; adding to the convenience.

There was one instance where our little one moved off towards the end of the bed and the sensor went off. It's such a great monitor, which picks up if the little one stops moving or breathing. With the added security of a noise monitor as well (if the little one wakes up and cries etc), it was for us, the all round monitor which gave us peace of mind.
