A well written and entertaining book. All my grandchildren loved it and I could hear them laughing at times, they ask for more books about Angela Nicely. My 7 year old grandson & 8 year old granddaughter was hooked from the first page. Angela Nicely is a mischievous little girl that goes from one antic to another but is funny as well. They reread this book numerous times while nagging at me to buy more.
One granddaughter is not an avid reader so we tried here with this book and she loved it, made me smile when she read the complete book and ask for more, now that shows to me it is worth getting more from this series.

I think it helps that there is 3 mini stories and not a full story in one book, it seems to keep the children more entertained that way.

4.0 out of 5 stars The chief miss of mischief 23 Aug 2014
By R. C. McGinlay VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Those of you (or their children) who have not read any of the “Dirty Bertie” stories (of which this book is a spin-off) need not worry, because enjoying “Angela Nicely” requires no knowledge of that other series.

Those of you who are fans of Dirty Bertie need not worry either – despite the deceptive pink sweetness of this book's front cover. There is still plenty of muck and smelliness to be amused by, as Angela has a mishap near Mr Grouch the caretaker's compost heap, gets covered in messy chocolate, and falls with a squelch into a muddy puddle. Bertie himself makes a brief cameo appearance, characteristically picking his nose.

Angela Nicely is not as prim and proper as her name suggests. Far from it – that's more the style of the stuck-up Tiffany Charmers, who is in the same class as Angela and Bertie. Angela likes nothing better than going on adventures, getting into mischief, carrying out investigations (such as finding out whether the Head Teacher's new hair is a wig) and eating chocolate fudge bars (there's a delightful image of her doing just that on page 68).

There are black and white illustrations by David Roberts on most pages. I was particularly amused by the fact that the big bow in Angela's hair never, ever leaves the girl's head. Even when she goes swimming, you can see the shape of it under her swimming cap!

The final story is the weakest of the three in this book, not really coming to much of a conclusion. However, that's my only real criticism of this nicely done book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Angela Nicely 9 Dec 2013
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Angela Nicely is a character which has already appeared in the Dirty Bertie books and who now takes centre stage in her own series. My six year old daughter had never really liked Dirty Bertie (although my sons read the books), but this appealed to her much more. The book has three different stories and each story consists of four short chapters. Along with the great illustrations, this makes it ideal for readers just moving on to chapter books, as the stories can be broken up.

In the first story, "Miss Skinner's Wig!" Angela is convinced that her Head Teacher is wearing a wig, but her friends don't believe her. Angela attempts to prove it, with disastrous results. In "Supermodel!", Tiffany (top of the class and teacher's pet) is going for an audition to model for a catalogue. Angela decides to attend the casting too and see if she can get chosen instead. In the last story, "Healthy Holiday!" Angela accompanies her mother on a spa break.

This is a totally stand alone book and your child will not have to be familiar with any of the characters in the Dirty Bertie books to read, and enjoy, them. With the pink cover, the book is obviously targeted more at girls and my daughter enjoyed reading it. I would say it is good to read independently for the approx 6-8 year old age group.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but very naughty! 19 Sep 2014
By Moonless VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Fans of Dirty Bertie will be familiar with Angela Nicely, Bertie’s next door neighbour and classmate. In this brand new series, Angela has some adventures of her own. The book is divided into three very funny stories, and accompanied by some fantastic illustrations by David Roberts.

In the first story, Angela is determined to prove that her headteacher is wearing a wig – with some disastrous consequences! In the second, Angela decides she wants to be a supermodel like arch rival Tiffany Charmers – but things don’t quite go to plan. And in the third story, Angela accompanies her mum on a spa break, but what she thinks will be a fun, exciting holiday turns into more of a stay at a prison camp!

These stories are great for girls and boys alike; there is still the cheekiness and wit of the Bertie stories, and David Roberts’ wonderful illustrations alone are wonderful to look at. While primarily aimed at girls: bright pink cover, stories about wigs, modelling and health spas (!), I think boys will enjoy the tales of Angela and her friends. Nice, but very naughty!

4.0 out of 5 stars One for girls who like Horrid Henry 16 July 2014
By David Burton VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
A bit of Horrid Henry to this one, with the usual misdemeanours and things not quite working out as planned and outrage at how this is somehow all so unfair. Sometimes things kind of work out anyway, as you'd expect, and the writing is simple, well-paced and engaged my kids.
Perhaps not the perfect bed-time story, but both my son and my girls enjoyed listening to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious! 27 July 2013
What a great book! It made me laugh out loud!

Angela Nicely is perfect for girls aged 6 to 8. Angela is a girl who knows she's right and is determined to prove it no matter what her long suffering friends say. The book is well illustrated and contains three short stories in short chapters. Well worth reading.
