Book Description

25 May 2010 Angel (Numbered Hardcover) (Book 6)
In possibly the craziest Angel volume yet, we find out what happened to Gunn, Drusilla, Angel, and Spike in the aftermath of the Fall, which includes comas, insane asylums, a comic con, and even Angel's movie adaptation. With stories by fan-favorite writer Brian Lynch and a two-issue arc co-written by Drusilla herself, Juliet Landau, this collection shows you just how insane Angel's world can get.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's all gone to Hell again 15 Aug 2010
By Andromeda Descendent TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I feared this would happen. Volume 5: Aftermath was a good bookend to the "Hell moment" storyline of After The Fall, and it seemed to point to the future. This largely unnecessary volume just drags the storyline out for all that it's worth. Vampire metaphors come easy here, and it hardly even feels like cliché to say that the series editors have sucked out every last drop out of the After The Fall franchise.

The good news - it starts off well enough, with an excellent Gunn storyline that sets up the equally excellent spin-off volume Only Human, and a suitably odd Drusilla story written by Juliet Landau herself. Five stars for these. But they make up less than half of this volume. The rest degenerates into farce as Angel and Spike visit a sci-fi convention and then for the remaining third of the book we get "the movie adaptation" of the Hell moment, with a Nicholas Cage lookalike spoofing Angel and spouting clichéd dialogue like he's possessed (and not by a demon, unless it's the demon of crap). I must be turning into the comic book guy from the Simpsons as words cannot express enough my ire for this stupid idea. After struggling my way through to the end of it I wanted to wash my brain out with industrial grade detergent. After The Fall is not famous enough to be spoofed, and whoever gave the go ahead for this self-indulgent rubbish owes me half my money back.

I'm a fan of the series though, so I couldn't bring myself to actually review this volume without knowing that the next one would be better. Luckily it is, and as the wyrm has finally stopped eating its tail, so to speak, I at last brought myself to write this review - knowing that even if this volume is a major league rip off, there is hope for the series from the very next volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars After the Aftermath 2 May 2014
By No More Mr. Mice Guy TOP 100 REVIEWER
The stories from issues 23-27 of IDW's comic-book continuation of Joss Whedon's TV-series `Angel' is collected, along with the `Angel: Last Angel in Hell Annual', as Angel, Vol. 6: Last Angel in Hell (Angel (Numbered Hardcover)). These are excellent stories, with superb scripting/characterisation, and suitably good artwork. The Annual is drivel, however.

Issue #23 features Gunn and Illyria, and tells of Gunn's convalescence, accelerated by the demon Non, who wants Gunn up and about for her own nefarious purposes. This story continues in the mini-series Only Human - see Angel Omnibus Volume 2 TP.

Issues #24 & #25 feature Drusilla, who is locked away in a secret secure facility, where a secret group of conspirators are up to something. More fool them...

Issues #26 and #27 sees Angel, Spike and Groosalug visiting the San Francisco Sci-Fi Festival - "Rip off of the comic con" - where a magic sword that has killed Angel in the past has somehow got into the auction, and the gang want it back in case it gives someone the wrong idea. Also at the con is a trailer of the new film "Last Angel in Hell", the story of Angel and the recent holocaust in LA. There are also a crowd of `people' who want the sword and/or collect bounties on Spike and/or Angel. Throw in a couple of magicians who want to give ordinary people the chance to be the hero of their dreams, and you have an excellent comedy-adventure story.

`Angel: Last Angel in Hell Annual' is an adaptation of the spurious film glimpsed in the story from Issue #26.

3.0 out of 5 stars Comedic interlude 12 Aug 2010
This volume of Angel is like one of those comedic/light hearted episodes that Joss Whedon liked to throw in during a season. The Angel/Spike adventure was very funny but the Drusilla story just didn't do anything for me. I'm not sure what it added to the character and I've no real idea where Drusilla now stands in the Angelverse. The first story sets up the Gunn/Illyria Only Human book. The final story is a Hollywood version of After the Fall. It's funny but not as much as it could be. Finally I'm not sure what this volume did for the overall series. It didn't seem to follow up on the previous volume but as I said it was more a standalone lighthearted break.

Angel Volume 6 was my favourite part of the Angel series. Without giving away spoilers, it kept me hooked. A must read for any Angel fan.
