Product Description

Dr. Malachi made “siblings” Jin and Delilah of clockwork and spare parts—human and otherwise. They have one purpose: to assassinate Queen Rowena so Dr. Malachi can profit from the war that will surely follow. When Jin discovers Dr. Malachi’s plans, he runs away, but to his despair he must leave Delilah behind.

Life in the outside world is terrifying. Jin has never been away from his creator’s estate and can barely pass for human. And now Dr. Malachi’s other creations—mechanical men and zombies—have picked up his trail. On the run, Jin crashes through young mechanic Molly Feldman’s roof; she sees the humanity beneath the metal and decides to hide him, but soon Malachi’s creatures are after her, too.

If Jin doesn’t rescue his “sister” Delilah, she’ll be forced to assassinate the Queen or die in the attempt. He needs Molly’s help, but if she finds out he was built for the same purpose, it may be the end for Delilah and Jin both.

4.0 out of 5 stars Steam punk for the enlightened 30 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Here we have a solid bit of writing set in an alternate earth with steam punk type tech. Once you that premises under your belt the rest of the story flows nicely. The characters are all nicely portrayed. Can recommend it to all who like the genre and a few who don't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Angel of Brass 9 Oct 2014

As I've said in other reviews, i am a new devotee of this author, good stories and marvelous characters. These days they call it Cyber Punk, back in the day it was just science fantasy, hey ho.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elaine alt-histories the alt-history! 4 May 2014
By Fiona - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Elaine Corvidae writes better-than-average genre fantasy, and the way she does it is by using the familiar tropes of modern fantasy - in this case steampunk, mad scientist, and zombies - but giving them a unique and unexpected twist. Also, it must be said she is very engaging and thoughtful writer, certainly above average in this way too.

In this story we have a version of "Victorian" England that is not only steampunk, but also exists in a world where Britain is not the imperial power - guess who is! I'd say the overall plot of this story is not overly unique, but the details certainly are, and that in combination with the appeal of the writing itself, the sympathetic and original characters, the offbeat culture that comes to life, and some truly chilling and disturbing moments, make for an intriguing tale which I am very happy to recommend. Which I could say for just about anything that Elaine writes, but I kind of feel this one is extra special.
4.0 out of 5 stars Fun take on steampunk 27 Aug 2013

Wonderful steampunk/alternative history (as in, what would have happened if the Aztecs had not fallen) novel. Jin and Del have been created by their "father" Dr. Malachi for a dark purpose. Jin manages to escape his father's clutches, but at a great personal cost. Madge and Liam help him, adventure is had, and lives are saved. Definitely worth a read!
5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Steampunk Adventure 27 Dec 2012

What a wonderful steampunk world the author has come up with. I loved Molly, the mechanical engineering student who works part time at a shop repairing machines and Jin, the unusual mix of machine and young man who despite his upbringing, has a strong sense of right and wrong. When the air ship Jin has stolen crashes and he falls through the skylight into the shop where Molly is working, neither one of them knows it is the start of not only a daring and dangerous adventure involving a plot to overthrow the queen, but also a beautiful friendship and more. With action, adventure, unusual steampunk inventions, some pretty creepy bad guys and a touch of humor and romance, this story was just right, even for younger readers. I'm definitely going to be looking for more stories by this author.
5.0 out of 5 stars and I don't even really like steampunk 15 April 2012

I got this during as a freebie during a brief give-away period, but I would have been glad to pay for it. I think it's a YA because the characters are in their late teens and there isn't a lot of hot-n-heavy sex. The main character, Molly, is a fun mechanically inclined student who thinks on her feet (or up in the air being clutched by Jin, the hero, as he flies around). I like the secondary characters such as her befuddled boss and her gear-head best friend and her elegant but sensible sister. Nasty bad guys--those shambler/zombies can give anyone the willies and some fine world-building, too. (love the variety of saints people pray to)

A fun read on a Sunday afternoon.

Corvidae rocks.
