All were orphans when they met in their teens in the late seventies, and they vowed to be a family. As they reunite at a film party in London, it is Rosalind Madigan, the angel of the title, who holds them together. An Academy Award-winning designer blessed with innate goodness, Rosie is troubled by commitments that leave her feeling estranged from herself and her friends: Gavin Ambrose, a Hollywood megastar, a brilliant actor/producer whose personal life is not as successful as it appears (Nell Jeffrey, head of an international public relations firm and Rosie's best friend, a glamorous woman having a secret love affair (and Kevin Madigan, Rosie's brother, an undercover cop in the NYPD Crime Intelligence Division who specializes in fighting organized crime, an assignment that threatens his life. Into their midst come a dashing French aristocrat and the world's most successful popular singer, two men who disrupt--and irrevocably transform--"the family."...

Four friends - Rosie Madigan, Gavin Ambrose, Nell Jeffrey and Kevin Madigan - swore eternal friendship when all they had was each other. Now their dazzling careers, their seemingly successful lives, are to be disrupted by a devastating singer - and by the shadow of their past. Angel is the story of family and friends, of love and loss, and of innocence and corruption.

The story was okay and the characters likeable, but it did not come alive for me. At times I found myself cringing at the corny dialogue. It was a solid story, a good read but it wasn't worth buying and a book I probably won't read again.

But they all break their promises in their own way. Eventually they reunite years later .Two strangers then enter their lives with devastating results......

Don't waste your time or money. Everything-the characters, plot, etc.-was not believable. It was a chore to get through this "novel".

Not her best, but ok.... 7 Nov 2001

I don't think there will be any BTB books that equal her trilogy, "A Woman Of Substance", "Hold The Dream" and "To Be The Best". In my opinion, those three were phenomenal. I've read a number of her books, but I just consider them light entertainment. I heard this one on audio CD, as I travel quite a bit for my job, and it really passes the time while driving. "Angel" did just that, passed the time. Agreeing with others, yes, it was predictable. There was no closure to a few subplots but the reader, Lorelei King made it quite enjoyable to listen to. I'm not sure that had I read the hard copy, I would have liked it nearly as well. All in all, not bad, just not great.
Boring and crap 10 Mar 2011
By E. S. Charpentier - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
"Angel" is an extremely long novel about Rosie, Nell, Gavin and Kevin who are friends. Gavin is a movie star and Rosie designs costumes for his movies and, in theory, other people's movies. Kevin is Rosie's brother and an NYPD officer. Nell is a successful publicist. The first 140 pages of this book introduce these people and tell us what they all think of each other. The next third of the book elucidates how, even though they are all fabulously rich and successful (except Kevin's not rich, because he's a cop, but he's still very good at it), none of them are very good at having a personal life and managing romantic relationships.
In the last third of the book, the four friends seem to begin to suck slightly less, but alas, they do not. The book also begins to suck slightly less, but then, just as it threatens to have some sort of plot, the loose ends are abruptly severed (NOT tied up) and the book ends happily ever after. Wow, was this a giant waste of my time.
