The story running through issues #13-17 of IDW's comic-book continuation of Joss Whedon's TV-series `Angel' is collected as Angel: After the Fall Volume 4 (Angel (IDW Paperback))
. This is the final section of this story, as everybody dies.
However, Angel and Wesley had a cunning plan... and bearing in mind that Wesley and Fred were already dead, and Spike and Gunn were vampires so technically dead anyway, and Cordelia had already transcended, so that she was technically dead also (she certainly wasn't paying taxes), then that only leaves Angel... (and Connor, I suppose, and all the `minor' characters not covered by being vampires etc.) and Wolfram & Hart had too much invested in him to let him die, so something had to be done, so they did it. For what they did, and what the consequences are, you'll have to read the book, as I don't want to spoil it for you. However, it is not a straightforward `deus ex machina' ending, as clues have been planted throughout the story, and not particularly subtle ones either, as they often take the form of lectures or declarations, however, unless you knew what they meant, and what the consequences of acting on them meant, you wouldn't really have pieced them together or be prepared for what happened.
This is an excellent conclusion to this storyline, with excellent scripting and artwork. I wasn't impressed by the opening issues of this comic series, but this finale has worked its way up to a 5-star rating for me.
