Its sixty cards (three copies of each of the 20 different cards) allow corps and runners to take a second look at how they want to wage their burgeoning cyber wars. The time has come to explore new angles, invent new uses for programmes, layers of leathal new ice, the development of the black ops teams and the importance of PR campaigns and public perception.

I quite like the format of the living card game, and although the universe of the original netrunner was more to my liking, I am enjoying the themes created by living in the android world.

There have been no duff packs, but one or two cards are currently useless, because they are meant to be used in synergy with other cards in later data packs.

Probably the best game, card gamers are not playing, for two players.

Thoughts About Second Thoughts 1 Aug. 2014
By Green Level Clearance - Published on
After the Opening Moves Data Pack, could anything else Netrunner release be able to match it? The Second Thoughts Pack would try. Let’s see what happens. I will be once again rating the cards on a 0 to 5 scale.

*Bishop (4) Cheap cost and saves you in effect 2 credits because it lowers the ice’s strength. Good start to the pack!
*Clone Retirement (3.5) Jinteki is cool with this agenda. While now kind of out of favor it still fits in with a build forcing the runner to grab a lot of agendas to win. Also known as Jamestekki.
*Copycat (1) Kind of a neat effect. And would punish the corp for rezzing lots of the same ice card. But I don’t think ultimately this card is very good. The biggest issue it runs into is the fact that the corp can easily get around it. All you really need is different types of ice on your servers. Not the same pieces.
*Elizabeth Mills (2.5) Thematically she is great actually. She is also on the art for the Scorched Earth card. And her ability lets you destroy places. But in the scheme of things she’s kinda lacking in power. You might be better off running Witness Tampering.
*Eureka (2) I’ve seen some wonky combos that let you play Torch or even another big priced card for free. I personally ain’t very impressed. Test Run + Scavenge is cheaper.
*Hard at Work (0) I understand what they were trying to do. The reverse of Wyldside. Instead of losing a click and getting 2 cards, you lose a click and get 2 credits. But this card sucks! A click for 2 credits is good if you can control it! But being forced to do it? Not so much. Also this card costs 5 which just slows you down way too much. Avoid this clunker at all costs.
*Hellion Alpha Test (1) Not worth the risk. A low trace and you take a bad publicity if you fail. Pass.
*Leviathan (1) Release the Kraken! This is a big mama of a breaker. Unfortuneately at the current time there are no real code gates that this is needed for. Someday maybe….but not today.
*Muckraker (1) First up I find the art kind of disturbing. Very disturbing. Other than that the card is mediocre at best. I think the “elicit” subtype was not necessary either. But that’s how it is.

*Prepaid VoicePad (4) At first glance I immediately disregarded this card. 2 buck hardware which saves you a buck playing events. Since then I have repented of my ways. This card is so great. Just add in Levy AR Lab Access. And you can recycle the whole thing. Love it!
*Profiteering (3.5) A good agenda. To make it worth your while you need to get the mx amounts of credits. That means a lot of bad pub. So I recommend playing it in a deck where you don’t run a lot of ice or at least don’t mind it getting broken.
*Recon (2) If you are running this you probably might as well run Snitch.
*Record Reconstructor (0) Get that corn out of my face! – Nacho Libre.
*Restructure (4.5) Do you like Hedge Fund? Meet his older and meaner brother. This card slots into multiple decks very easily.
*Scheherazade (3) Pretty cool. But if the corp plays Power Shutdown on you for 0 you are up the creek. Also be careful with your Caissa programs. You can get them stuck on this.
*Shipment From SanSan (3) Another good card. It saves you some money.
*Swordsman (3) This card was created as a direct counter to Atman (or so it seems ). At any rate it’s not a bad card. Fairly balanced. I sometimes throw a one of in my Jinteki.
*The Cleaners (2.5) It’s not much better than a blank 5/3 agenda. Doesn’t really do much. I guess theoretically it makes your Scorched Earth take their whole grip….yeah it doesn’t do all that much. I would rather have a Priority Requisition myself.
*Wotan (2) I’m a big fan of Haas Bioroid (or any actually) big ice. But paying 14 credits for something that 99% of the time will just end the run? And it’s unique? Bleh.

Overall: So there you have it. Pack 2 in The Spin Cycle. Has about 3 exciting cards. Nothing that you probably can’t live without though. I would say it’s a nice addition. But don’t hurt yourself to get it. Still if you have Netrunner fever like I do you probably already bought it anyway.

Eureka! More bad publicity! Eureka! Less bad publicity! 4 Mar. 2014

Second Thoughts is a great data pack that includes some of the most useful cards in the game. Unfortunately, it also includes some of the worst cards in the game (Hard at Work, Leviathan). The corp gets a fantastic burst economy card, Restructure, as well as two cards to get rid of bad publicity: Elizabeth Mills (Weyland Consortium asset) and Clone Retirement (Jinteki agenda). Of course NBN gets Muckraker, an illicit piece of ICE, and there is a new agenda called Profiteering that lets you swap credits for bad pub, so you can get it right back. Weyland Consortium also gets Off the Grid (upgrade), and The Cleaners (agenda that lets you score more meat damage). Jinteki gets a piece of ICE that does not like AI, Swordsman. NBN got a great card in Shipment from Sansan. And HB added Hellion Alpha Test and Wotan, a monster piece of ICE.

Over on runner side of things we have Prepaid VoicePAD, a Shaper card called Eureka!, which lets you install the top card of your stack for 10 credits less, and Record Reconstructor. Recon and Copycat are the new Criminal cards. And if you like the Caissa pieces, Bishop is Anarch’s newest addition.

A few lame cards aside, this is still a strong enough data pack to warrant a full five star rating. Get it!
