First of all, the remote control is useless. This was not unexpected as other reviews had previously mentioned this, so if you are going to buy one of these MX boxes, save yourself some hassle and buy a mini keyboard to go with it. They are a tenner or so and just make life so much easier. You do need the remote to switch the box on or off though.
Now the MX box- I love it.
It comes pre loaded with a clean install of XBMC. You will have to add channels and there are thousands to choose from This is a bit fiddely but there are excellent tutorials on xbmchub and youtube. Just search for xbmc fusion or xbmc mashup. Also preloaded are Netflix, youtube ,play store and a lot of other android apps.
I have since downloaded tubemate, itv player, bbc i player,4od, viewtelly app, Tesco clubcard tv , spotify and blinkbox music. The only one I could not get to work was Tesco club card tv, this i think is more to do with the app rather than the MX box.
Once you get the hang of this MX box and open up its potential, you really can cancel the cable or Sky subscription.

This is a counterfeit clone of the Matricom G-Box MX2. The hardware is not only outdated, it's the stuff that Matricom took in from their customers and sent back to their factory. According to Matricom they will not sell refurbished hardware as their MX2 so instead they take in defective parts, fix them and sell them in china as this box. So you're getting used/refurbished/returned device when you buy this version. Buyer beware!

I bought this as I have friends who say they are great. I thought that too when I put it on for the first time but the when I tried it the second time it froze at the startup screen. just wouldn't get and further. I am now returning the product and will think twice before buying another.

I haven't owned and Android TV box before and after losing the analogue TV signal in our area and only having Freesat for the living room TV decided it might be a good option for the TV in our bedroom.

The first thing to note when you open the package is that there are no batteries for the remote included with the device and no HDMI cable (just a composite AV cable). The remote takes three AAA batteries which you will have to buy or rob from another remote.

Installing the device is straightforward and it just requires the use of a spare HDMI socket on the back of your TV and power (I was lucky and had a spare HDMI cable not in use). The box supports WI-FI and in my house I have an access point running 802.11g, as I am a network engineer by trade I conducted a wireless survey of my home when I installed the access point so I positioned it so there are no dead zones and my frequency channel is different from the neighbours to reduce interference. With all of this in mind I booted the box up and configured the wireless interface (which was straightforward) as I intended to run it from it's wireless connection. Unfortunately the signal quality was very flaky and dropped connection frequently and needed to be 'bounced' (disabled/enabled) to get it to come back up. My laptop when placed in the same location as the box claims the signal quality to be 90% which should be good enough. Download speeds from the internet were not good, I barely got 1mbit/sec download when my broadband runs rock steady at 4.3mbit/sec.

Amazing quality for the price. 3 starts as it did not have XBMC preloaded with it.
