My main reason for purchasing this make of Halogen oven was the fact that you could change the Halogen bulb yourself which I understand from reviews is the part that is most likely to fail. Secondly I only wanted a small unit since I am a retired widow and was looking for an economical replacement for my oven. I don't make cakes but love jacket potatoes, sausages, chicken and cheese on toast which using a standard electric oven can be expensive for small portions. Unfortunately none of my expectations have been met. After the first unit had been replaced due to defective manufacturing (very quickly and efficiently done I might say) the second unit arrived and I found the control knobs had no indication as to where the setting was so I had to get some tip-ex and mark white lines on them so I could see the minutes and temperature I wanted to set. The tall trivet, which is the most used, has only three support legs and drives me mad since whenever you put anything on it then the slightest movement of the items or you go to turn the food over and it tips upside down and the food goes to the bottom of the bowl. Then it involves getting out the oven gloves to lift out the trivet and rescue the stuff from the bottom. In the case of sausages they are then all covered in the fat that has dripped out and collected in the bottom of the bowl - ug. I have tried to bake potatoes but even after an hour they are not always cooked in the middle. I tried a free range organic chicken which turned out tough and not fully cooked at the bones being fairly red.Read more ›

I have been using Andrew James halogen ovens for years.I decided to get the small one this time. The halogen bulb was not working when item arrived.A quick phone call to A.J. sorted out the problem and they sent me a spare bulb very quickly.I must say that I do prefer the larger one as it is more robust. Also ,the dials on the small one are a bit fiddly and the markers on the dials not as visible. On the small version, the tall grill tray is so lightweight that it has a tendency to tip over when taking your grilled food out.My old one lasted about 2 years so was good value. Will wait and see about this one.

Bought for a campervan to replace larger 12 litre model which I originally ordered but found too large. Cooks jacket spuds well, havent used it much yet but I think it will be an absolute boon.

This is a successful purchase and so far works well. The reason I gave it only 4 stars is that the markings on timing knob are barely visible, I had to mark the little line with coloured nail polish to ensure that the food gets cooked for the correct length of time.

This oven is all that I would expect of a Halogen oven. Having previously owned a 12 litre, (which I found too big for use of one person) I had no hesitation in purchasing the smaller version. HOWEVER I find that the base of the glass bowl, being more 'rounded' than the larger oven, does not make for a very stable base for the stands. I really feel that there is a safety issue here. An example of this is when turning food to ensure even browning, the taller stand slips and I felt at risk of burning myself. I have resolved this problem by placing a small silicone mat on the base of the oven and then placing the stand on top. This provides a non-slip base......problem solved. I hope this is of use to anyone else who has had a similar experience.
