More About the Author

Brendan O'Keeffe is the author of the acclaimed Shae Series.

The first book, Andor Awakening was released in March 2012, with little known of the fantasy books themselves or the author, who was just 19. By 2013, the books had become far-reaching and relatively popular, with thousands of copies sold.

Since then O'Keeffe has been hard at work on Andor Wolfblood, a book which he states will take the main character, Andor, and his comrades to the "darker recesses of humanity" and will show them that "the Raz are far from being their sole enemy", whilst also assuring that the world itself will see significant development and exploration in the second book, with old faces making re-appearances but a large group of new characters entering the fray. Additionally, O'Keeffe states that many of the questions and uncertainties (as well as the monumental cliffhanger at the end of Awakening) will be answered in some form during Wolfblood.

Whilst Wolfblood was originally intended for release in late 2012, a series of factors, including the length of Wolfblood and complexity of the characters introduced, led O'Keeffe to delay the release of the book into Spring 2013 in an effort to maintain the quality of the plot line without sacrificing length.

Brendan O'Keeffe grew up in Lewes, Sussex and began dabbling in writing as a young boy. The Shae Series and the characters inside of it developed over years of personal exploration that cultivated a rich and detailed world with a substantial depth that lent a gritty reality to its characters. O'Keeffe invested heavily into the background and mythology of Shae before producing Awakening, firmly believing that it would create a far more vivid and real world with relatable challenges and sacrifices experienced by the characters that are locked in a bitter war to save humanity from extinction.

Writing aside, O'Keeffe is completing a degree in Primary Education and is a keen fitness fanatic. He spends most of his time either exercising, socialising or writing, living in Oxford for the majority of the year but returning to towns in Sussex such as Lewes, Battle and Bexhill on a regular basis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Innovative Writing 27 Mar 2012
By JS
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Despite my initial apprehension at reading a book by an author I'm unfamiliar with, I cannot praise Andor: Awakening (The Shae Series) highly enough; the graphic, sensory descriptions really bring this dynamic new world out of the pages (as is evident from the first parargraph - "the single break in an otherwise seamless sheet of azure"), and complement the intricately-woven plot with exceptional flair.

Perhaps more impressive still is the degree of character development that appears effortlessly blended into an already detailed and layered landscape - characters are immediately accessible in their fundamental personalities, and further defined through the use of subtle hints at great emotional depths that make each character a true tapestry of thoughts and experiences.

I could go on, but feel it more appropriate to keep this review short(ish) and conclude as follows; it is rare to stumble upon such a distinctive and precise author so early in their career. I am left yearning for O'Keeffe's future works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent debut! 17 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded this book three days ago and really struggled to put it down.

The pace is terrific throughout, I care about the characters, and I didn't feel bogged down by unnecessarily detailed descriptions (which I find happens with some of the more established fantasy authors).

My only criticism would be the frequency of typos; those that should be picked up by proofreaders rather than a spellchecker.

Bottom line is - I can't wait for the sequel!
