Product Description

Review

"Gives you the lowdown on how to get the best out of excursions into the countryside. The Oldfields, who used to live in Spain, obviously took Andalucia to heart. Their enjoyment of the place colours their descriptions." (Sunday Times - Book of the Week)"

Product Description

It is said that 'if you are not excited by Andalucia, you have no heart'. At the end of one of their hikes, while writing this book, as the authors sat on a hilltop basking in the sun and watching eagles frolicking above, they shared the unspoken thought that life doesn't get much better than this. Andalucia is a huge area. The area included in the book extends from some 25km west of Ronda as far as the Sierra Nevada in the east. To the north, the extent is bounded by a line running through Olvera, Antequera and Granada, but the walks tend to be concentrated within specific areas. These areas are the Alpujarra, the Sierra Nevada, the Axarquia, the Parque Natural Montes de Malaga, the Sierra de Mijas, the Sierra de Las Nieves and the Sierra de Grazalema. (It would be impossible within a single book to provide walks close to every town or village likely to be chosen as a holiday destination.) While all relevant transport timetables are included, a car is therefore recommended if you really want to penetrate this part of Spain. Accordingly, many of the walks are circular - or linear walks are designed so that you can pick up a bus to take you back to your car at the end of the hike.

5.0 out of 5 stars one experienced user one new convert !, 25 Mar 2009
This review is from: Andalucia and The Costa Del Sol (Landscapes) (Paperback)
My boyfriend and I used the Sunflower Landscapes Andalucia and Costa del Sol 2006 version on our holiday to Andalucia in December 2007. We enjoyed walks 10,11,14,17,16 and wanted to do 12, but somehow couldn't find the start (I think I took the wrong route from Frigliana, where we were staying, so we probably came at it from the wrong angle). I printed off the update before we left Scotland, but hardly used it and all the walks were as described in the book. I count myself as an experienced Sunflower user, having used them in Corsica and Corfu in 2002/3; now my boyfriend is a convert too - the walks just fit our requirements for 'a nice little walk'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely walking area, 3 Jun 2009

I have used several of these Sunflower guides and recommend them for Spring /Autumn holidays for regular walkers (but not the superfit who might find them a bit tame). They have a good variety of walks from 1 hour up to 5 or 6. The walks in this one are quite spread out so, depending where you stay, you can probably only do a few with public transport; car-hire is recommended. We tried the walks round Nerja in November and the weather was perfect for walking.

i was already a convert to the sunflower books before i bought this one. we only managed to do 2 walks in the Sierra Nevada near Granada, but both were fabulous, although we did get a bit lost on walk 7 as the path is quite difficilt to follow. However, we got there in the end. Will definitely have this book with us next time we are in the area. Car tours also great.
