'And They Walked Away' should be re-named, 'And They're Here to Stay'.
As debut albums go, this one must surely rank amongst the best of its genre.
Comparisons with The Coral will abound, but in my opinion The Bandits are on an altogether higher plane. They deliver 12 humdinger songs, each clearly discernible from the next, without the need, unlike their fore mentioned contempories, to indulge in eclectic styles just for the sake of it.
In short, the songs all stand on their own two feet, and none require pastiche or plagiarism to prop up their individual excellence.
The album opens with '2 Step Rock', an excellent foot tapping rollick, and it continues at a likeminded pace throughout.
All the songs are instantly memorable, but if you were looking for standouts, 'Warning', 'Numbers', 'Take It and Run', are the melodic powerhouses which do it for me.
Make no mistake, this is a band confident in their own ability, full of swagger and grounded humour (take the lyrics in 'Choas in the Courtroom'), who have resisted the temptation to drown their songs in an Oasis-like over production.
If anything, the muted feel of the soundscape is the only thing which detracts from the experience, but that is only a minor gripe, and one which probably points to the fact that they're undoubtedly a consummate live act too.
This album is well worth a listen - give it a go!!
