The first reviewer eloquently stated my feelings on the EP's and the artist. I'll review Amy through the effect she had on me when I first heard her music. I look forward to the day when the rest of the world discovers her talent.
Amy's music came to my attention while watching the independent film "A Broad Way".(400 people participated in a one-day project for documentary filmmakers, amateurs and professionals. Together, they set out to capture on film every block of Broadway from Battery Park to the Bronx.)
She appears in the film as just another musician walking up Broadway hurrying from one gig to another, or perhaps a student on her way to class. Before they cut away she agrees to play a few bars for the camera team. A few scenes later we are teased with the intro to "Nightime Bird." Hearing her voice I immediately perked up thinking, "Wow. Who is this?" Then they cut to a sidewalk scene with Amy strumming her guitar and singing her heart out - much to the delight of everyone around her.
My next thought was, "Wow!" again, as I questioned how that alluring, mature, well-polished, scat-singing voice could be coming from someone so young and diminutive - I assure you it was Amy.
When the scene cuts away, I felt a loss - as if just when you start getting into the groove, she's gone forever. I stopped the film and twice more played that short scene. My focus stepped away from the film for a minute realizing that finding out who she was would be impossible. I was disheartened, and returned my attention to the film.
It ends as only a film about NYC could end. Then the score drops out. Credits start to roll, and I hear it. "There's that voice again!", I realized. We are treated to studio version of the entire song as credits start to roll. Thankfully she was listed in the credits, along with her web address. I found the web page and followed the link to Amazon and immediately downloaded both albums.
I encourage you to preview all tracks from both EP's and download those that speak to you. I predict if you like one track, you'll like most of them.
