I am not sure what Ms Laurens thought while writing this story but it is a way off compared to her original Bar Cynster ones. Even the Bastion Club ones are better.

First I liked Henrietta but her "fell" for James was just boring and far too fast and without any kind of sparkle or her usual sexual tension. It seems that Ms Laurens realised that after 100 pages the story was over and she then added a murder mystery on. First I thought "great, Adair and Stokes back again" but this part also lacked any kind of interest.

The seduction was even more tame than in her earlier works like "Four in a hand".

I re-read an earlier Cynster book at the moment and you can really see the differences. This I can't lay down, Henrietta I could forget about very fast.

I still have the 5th book on pre-order, mainly because I feel Mary is a bit more interesting than her sister. Let's hope I am not disappointed again.

First let me make it clear I love most of Stephanie Laurens books. I so looked forward to this one unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. The Story line seemed to me in the most part to be taken from the perfect lover. ( which is an excellent book)
It was boring the characters weren't interesting. it didn't hold me at all. I ended up feeling robbed. I expect if you haven't read her books before you may enjoy it

Sadly Ms Laurens has lost her sparkle, bit like the charm necklace. Lots of waffly drivel - fundamentally a short story padded to a novel. I find it hard to believe this is a creation of the author of the passionate first cynster novels, or the more light touch fair juno. Regardless it felt like a formulaic rip-off and almost ghost written. Please snap back to form please! Meanwhile going to re-read some of her original novels just for the fun of it - more amusing than this. Really annoyed i paid so much for it.

This book "And then she fell" is the romance and mystery novel which is the first of a linked pair of stories in the author's "Cynster" series, the second being "The Taming of Ryder Cavanaugh (Cynster Sisters)," due out later in 2013. These books, set in 1837, follow on from the "Cynster Sisters" trilogy set in 1829.

Henrietta and Mary Cynster, the heroines of this book and of its' sequel respectively, are the cousins of the three sisters, Heather, Eliza and Angelica Cynster, who were the heroines of the immediately preceding trilogy, which consisted of

1) "Viscount Breckenridge To The Rescue" (Heather)
2) "In Pursuit Of Eliza Cynster" and
3) "The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae (Cynster)" (Angelica)

In the first of those books, "Viscount Breckenridge to the rescue," while visiting Scotland, Heather Cynster was given a special necklace which had some sort of pagan religious powers: it was supposed to help an unmarried lady who wears it to find her "hero" and true love. We were told in that book that this necklace would pass in turn from Heather Cynster to her sisters Eliza and Angelica, and then to their cousins Henrietta (heroine of this book) and Mary before returning to Scotland.

Very dull heavily padded story with shades of Simon and Portia's fake falling out. No tension, sexual or otherwise. Seems to be going the opposite direction to most writers and toning down the bedroom scenes. I really should not carry on getting conned into buying these. The earlier Cynster and Bastion Club books are good romps but wouldn't bother with her offerings in the last couple of years.

I have defended the last few books by Stephanie Laurens when others have given them poor reviews; after all, her writing style is wonderful and even an average book written by her is better than many other authors' best efforts. However, this really is one of the dullest things I've ever read! I had to force myself to finish it, even though I had lost interest after the first few chapters (because the love story is resolved by then - it's all pretty mundane, two nice, slightly dull people realise they love each other after having known each other for years). The rest of the story is padded out with a murder mystery that just feels "tacked on" and frankly, I couldn't care less whodunit. In fact, I've forgotten already. Clearly, Ms Laurens wrote this in her sleep; I pretty much read it in mine.

This is the first in Stephanie Lauren's Cynster Sisters Duo. I really loved this book. It's full of mystery and intrigue, not forgetting a love story.
Set in Regency England, Henrietta Cynster is famously known as the "Matchbreaker" due to her ability to be able to forsee ill fated nupitals. After breaking up the relationship of James Glossup, her brother's best friend, she feels obligated to find him a suitable bride instead. James who due to his grandfather's will, must marry by a certain date or lose his inheritance.
What follows is a story about a heroine who believes that love is not for her, but finding that James just maybe her one true love.
We also have a mystery involving who is trying to harm our heroine. What I really loved was the continuation of the Lady's necklace that Henrietta was given at the end of the last book.
