Lana Spiggs has only ever wanted a family of her own, and for people to stop telling her what to do. On her fifteenth birthday she met Les,
'He wasn't Leonardo Dicaprio, but he wasn't bad.'
From that first time they met in McDonalds she knew he was the one, and he was the one she wanted a family with. But when she gives birth to Shinola, she starts to realize its not all happy families.
Towards the end of her pregnancy Lana starts to realize how much hard work it is, especially when she isn't fully convinced Les supports her.
When Shinola is born Lana's life is turned upside down, her friends stop visiting her, Les hardly comes round, and when her mother moves out Lana is all on her own. Then she finds out that Les has been lying to her and all she wants is for things to be back to normal.
Dyan Sheldon has made the book unbelievably realistic. She has got Lana's teenage attitude spot on, and I found that I have a lot in common with Lana.
Through the book, you feel exactly what Lana feels. When she is happy, so are you. When she is bored, you are bored to. It is impossible to put down and the author is completely honest as to what she thinks the situation would be like.
It teaches you a great lesson, because it shows that teenage pregnancy in general is hard work, but if you are alone it becomes strenuous and tedious.
I would recommend this to any girl 12+, because it is easy to read and funny along the way.
