Format:Audio CD
I was amazed when I clicked onto this page and found that no-one had yet posted a review. Though Tanita Tikaram's career never reached these heights again, I think that Ancient Heart is a classic. The album brings forth a world where emotion, action and even life itself are subdued to infinite shades of grey. While Tikaram's lyrics sometimes hover between a kind of eternal mystique and stuff best left to pseud's corner, she really does capture the sadness of loving in Valentine's Heart, and lift the heart with Cathedral Song. Nothing she did after this had the same power, which is all the more reason to go back and remember her at her very best.

Tanita Tikaram was not a name familiar to me until I heard 'Good Tradition' on Radio 2 - Terry Wogan has a lot to answer for (with Eva Cassidy too) - Then I also heard 'Cathedral Song' but especially 'Valentine Heart'- I just thought 'wow' and when I listened to 'Twist in my Sobriety' I thought this just reflects the darkest moments that everyone has - great stuff !

My parents used to play this when i was really young and I always loved tanita's music. So when I finally remembered her name recently it was such a joy to finally hear her songs again. She's a fantastic composer with a very unusual voice. I really think this is her best album. Definitely recommend it to anyone remotely interested in music!!

Lucidity
This one is one of my favorite albums during my teenage years. I like its solid, lucid tones. Twist in my sobriety and Valentine Song are my favorites. Read more
