Some good material - but be prepared,

The 'cut and use' series provide stencil templates printed onto medium weight, manilla paper. Bear in mind that you'll need turpentine and boiled linseed oil to treat the paper before you take knife to stencil. You can obtain both these items from just about any hardware shop. Simply remove the plate from the book, and apply a 50/50 coat. When it comes to cutting tools forget about modelling knives, they're hopeless. Go out and buy a scalpel instead. Most art supply stores now stock them in preference to modelling knives anyway.
The best stencils in this book are abstract, floral motifs, both in the form of 'stand alone' images and borders. There are a handful of cartouches and a few representations of ancient Egyptian deities. These appear clumsy when compared to the other stencils. Rmember: the bigger, stronger images, transfer more readily onto most surfaces. Beware the smaller, detailed stencils. They may look wonderful, but it's virtually impossible to use them without damage.

Bought this book several years ago, and used it for several very successful projects. Then I loaned it to someone who moved out of state with it and several others on Egyptian art(book theives are the lowest form of life). The only one I have not replaced, and have sorely missed, is this one. Anyone interested in Egyptian motifs and designs will find it a wonderful source of clear, readily usable outlines to work from.
