A no-nonsense approach to martial arts training, 26 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Anyone who is familiar with what Paul Vunak does will know that he specialises in a streamlined approach to Jeet Kune Do for real self-defence. This book is kind of an overview of his ideas (ideas that originated with Bruce Lee and Dan Inosanto) and is a mine of information. It's not really a 'how to' book - for that, I would check out his videos - but what he says in the pages of this book made a lot of sense to me, and every martial artist, or non-martial artist interested in the difference between 'self-perfection' and 'self-protection', as he calls it, will find a place for this book on their shelf. At 125 pages, it's not that long, but this is typical of Voo's 'no-nonsense' approach - everything in here gets atraight to the point, and covers his RAT system (Rapid Assault Tactics), Killer Instinct, Kino Mutai, Edged Weapons Defence, JKD and Police use of Force, Women's Self-Defence and more. Recommended.

WELL WORTH THE WAIT, 8 April 2002
By A Customer
OK, I am a student of Sifu Paul's so call me bias if you want. This is Paul's first book in 10 years and encapsulates very well the training, teaching and concepts he has been working on. It does not claim to be a "how to" book but instead provides concepts and relays experiences. Possibly not a book for a beginner (or the faint-hearted), a good starting point is Paul's JKD Concepts & Philosophies book. For those with a serious interest in self-preservation I highly recommend it, and have done to all of my students and now to Amazon customers. Written from vast experience, well put together, good photographs and an excellent book all round.

Vunak = Realism, 31 Mar 2002
Martial Arts are a fun way of keeping fit. A form of education and a way of life for some people. But thats Martial Arts. You know, you go for the gradings, get your white belt, your yellow belt and all that. BUT CAN YOU REALLY DEFEND YOURSELF? This book doesn't tell you what to do. What it does is, it teaches you reality. What Dojo, Dojang, or Kwoon can teach you about a random act of violence? Paul Vunak has a no nonsense approach. His philosophy is second to none, add this book to your martial arts library, you will gain alot of useful information from this book.
