More About the Author

Francesca Gould was born in Bath, England, although has lived most of her life in Bristol. Her passion for health, beauty and fitness led to a career in teaching before becoming an author. She believes that stress and an unhealthy diet is largely responsible for poor health and accelerating the aging process; this led her to study for a Food and Nutrition BSc degree at Bath Spa University. A proud moment in her career as a writer was when, in 2008, her trivia book 'Why is Yawning Contagious?' made it into the New York times bestseller list.

I am undertaking training to become a massage therapist and found this book on Amazon totally by accident looking for something else - I'm glad I found it. This book is a great tool if you need to understand the basics straight away, as I found it was clearly written and it doesn't confuse by blinding you with anatomical jargon. The crossword puzzles at the back of the book make studying and revising far more fun and the information you need sticks in your mind this way. As a basic book, this one is one of the best.

As a reflexology student I bought this book mainly as a revision aid as it was only published towards the end of my course. I found it a really useful book as I had previously found it difficult to find an anatomy and physiology book of exactly the right level. It is written in easily understood language with clear illustrations and diagrams. The tests and crosswords throughout the book were excellent for checking my knowledge and helping me focus on those areas requiring further study. I would highly recommend this book to anyone studying a complementary therapy.

I teach the ITEC A&P qualification and know only too well how difficult it is to find a text book written at the level required to support the course and syllabus (A level).

I have used the Louise Tucker book for the last four years but it lacks decent illustrations and contains a shocking number of mistakes, even after a trillion editions - its biggest critism.

However I aim to use this book for the next academic year, after I discovered it too late for this year's students. It is written in a simple easy-to-read manner with plenty of activities such as labelling diagrams, which may seem a bit 'play school' to some, but are a proven technique to successful learning and retention of information. It may not fully support the ITEC syllabus but neither does any other text book.

A useful book for anyone studying ITEC or wishing to self-educate on the workings of the human body.

Although a very basic book, it explains everything without technical jargon. Very good quality diagrams. Throughout the book there are several tasks to test yourself. I particularly liked the fact that you can look up all the answers on the internet. The book claims to contain everything you'll need if you are following the Diploma in Holistic Therapies (VTCT) and other basic Anatomy and Physiology courses. If that is the case, then this book is well worth having.

I am studying Aromatherapy and Massage and found this book helped me get through the A&P modules successfully. It is clear, concise with very helpful diagrams and 'colouring' workpages to reinforce information you have just read. I found it invaluable as a reference point and it made it much easier to approach other more 'technical' A&P textbooks as it gives you a basic but solid understanding. Well worth adding to the library, particularly if you are studying holistic therapies.

Extremely glad I purchased this book from Amazon. I am studying beauty therapy and was not looking forward to the A&P part, a lot of books that I have looked at buying were very long winded, technical and make you want to put them down! This is simple, clear, and tells you the basic facts without too much detail, but I feel that it covers the essentials. There are some parts of the book that offer you "revision" by crosswords and questions, which I haven't done, but a good of way of learning if it works for you! Very good author and very good book!

I was struggling with A&P until I saw this book. Here's how I discovered it:

A Polish lad on the course was unfamiliar with the numbering system in libraries (Dewey Decimal System) and so I showed him how to find a book on A&P. Then I showed him how to choose a book using the contents and index pages, using the subject from that day's lesson as an example.

It so happened to be this book. When I read the page in question, I considered it conveyed the topic far better than our lecturer, her notes or the course book. At that point, I decided to borrow the book. Having spend only an our or so with the book I ordered it online.

I asked my lecture the following week if she was familiar with the book. She told me, "You'll either love her or hate her!" Having now developed my A&P knowledge, I can understand that this may not be the most comprehensive A&P work, yet it sorts out that which one need to know from what is a confusing mass when one first begins to study - or, more accurately, is panicking around exam time!

As a newcomer to the world of biology and massage, I found this book extremely helpful, easy to understand, neatly and well laid out (some books have extremely small and tightly printed text, it makes me feel unorganized and claustrophobic). The book has many easy understandable illustrations, tasks and crosswords to assist in the learning process and, a lot of color- which really steers the book away from being boring. Most importantly, I get excited when it's almost time to turn to a new page... which clearly indicates that I am loving it. Maybe not recommended for the experienced professional, but definitely for students and for lecturers looking for some great coursework! After having purchased this book, I have also ordered 3 more titles by Francesca Gould.
