Product Description

Product Description

Anatomy of Design dissects fifty examples of graphic design piece by piece, revealing an array of influences and inspirations. These pieces represent contemporary artifacts that are well conceived, finely crafted, and filled with hidden treasures. Some are overtly complex. Others are so simple that it is hard to believe there is a storehouse of inspiration hidden underneath. The selections include all kinds of design work such as posters, packages, and more. Each exhibit is selected for its ubiquity, thematic importance, and aesthetic significance, and every page shows how great work is derived from various inspirational and physical sources.

Not Bad, but not great. Just average. 12 Nov 2009
By Brian Martin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I give this 3 stars, but it's probably 3.5 or possibly 4. For me personally it's a 3. There's about 20 or 30 designs here that they dissect into trends or compare it to other similiar design works. A lot of it is political in nature and the rest of it is pretty average design stuff. I found myself glancing over the pages, reading a few paragraphs on some of the more interesting designs, but hardly reading it cover to cover. It probably isn't worth the 40 dollar asking price in my opinion.

I notice I have a lot of "probablys" in my review. I guess that is a testament in itself on the averageness of this book. It has some nice designs and it's neat to see it dissected and to learn more about trends that go behind it, but I could easily find that stuff online.

At the price you could get 2 design books and be better off. If I had to purchase again I'd probably pass. Probably.
Steps kind of book 5 Sep 2009

This is a great book for graphic designers. It shows you the steps that many people take to complete their own design. It also shows that research is key.
