Product Description

Synopsis

Everyone understands that the internal structure of the body affects shape, posture and movement. Without an understanding of what is hidden from view, the artist cannot express the physical attributes and create a drawing that brings character truly to life. What makes this study of anatomy unique is that it focuses on visual knowledge, appealing to the methods through which artists really understand and appreciate information. There's no unnecessary medical jargon, only stunning yet accurate artwork, showing the artist what he needs to know in order to bring the human form to life. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I have been a fine art painter and drawing and painting instructor for well over a decade. I work in the field of traditional realistic art where the study and accurate depiction of anatomy is taken very seriously. I have never seen a worse anatomy book than this one. There is almost no descriptive or helpful text, but the worse sin by far is that the illustrations are terrible in the extreme. They often exhibit incorrect proportions, and are always horribly executed. As a manual intended for artists it is laughable and certainly sad. For anyone seeking anatomical knowledge it is at best misleading. Probably any other anatomy book out there is better than this one. A friend actually brought this book to me because she could not believe the poor quality. It is in fact almost shockingly bad. Books like this should not get printed. I gave it one star only because no stars was not an option. The serious artist, art student, or student of anatomy should look elsewhere for their information.

The other chap only does 1* reviews. Grossly unfair, and unhelpful. I found this book to be a pleasant change from the usual text-heavy anatomy for artists. Who needs to read that the hip bone is connected to the thigh bone is connected to the knee bone etc etc? This one is meant for people who want to draw.

Worst Book! 7 Jun 2011
By Phil M - Published on Amazon.com
This is the worst book ever. None of the drawings are correct. The anatomy is completely wrong. And he has this weird habit of drawing heads extremely small with absolutely no space between the eyes/nose/mouth/chin. Terrible drawings. I work professionally in the video game industry as an artist, and we were all laughing at this book.
General information, amateur quality drawings. 5 Jun 2011
By Chad - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
With an abundence of anatomy books for artists on the market, this one should be towards the bottom of your list. While the author does offer some general information, some of the drawings are of an amateur quality; for example some figures are out of proportion and others are shaded very poorly. Compared to other anatomy books for artists on the market by authors such as Joseph Sheppard and Jose M. Parramon this book simply does not compete.

This is a really good book! 25 Oct 2003
By Milos Hadzic - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
It has 200 illustrations which are extremely good. It starts with skeleton studies, goes over muscles and poses.

Recommnedation for artists of all levels.
