5.0 out of 5 stars No, But I wish I was!! 25 Jun 2005
I owe Porcupine Tree a debt of gratitude and I'm not talking about the great music they have produced down the years. No, its because they re-introduced me to a band I'd forgotten about years ago.

Ananthema started off life as a blisteringly heavy doom metal band at the turn of the 90's. After just catching the end of their set at a P.T. gig I was amazed at how much their sound had matured. It took me a while but I finally purchased their album 'A Fine Day To Exit'. This was followed almost immediately by their latest 'A Natural Disaster' and the album prior to 'A fine day..' entitled 'Judgement'. All fine albums. The best way to describe their sound is Heavy rock, meets Radiohead with a little Pink Floyd melancholy for good measure.

This DVD showcases tracks from the last 3 albums and represents to me, an amazing English rock band at the height of their power. Of course, they are still far from the sucess they deserve but I can think of no better introduction than seeing this DVD, unless youre lucky enough to catch them live. They are very popular in europe which is why this DVD was recorded in Poland. The lucky audience witness a refined set of music ranging from the keyboard driven progressions of 'Balance' and 'Closer' to the Monster rockers 'Pulled Under at 2000 Metres A Second' and 'Panic' and the stupendous ballad 'One Last Goodbye'. I particularly enjoyed it when they were joined by vocalist Lee Douglas (Sister of the drummer) as this broadened their sound even further! The picture quality is excellent and we are treated to a fabulous light show. The sound is awsome, I shall be playing this show until there are laser burns on the disc!

Some older fans are critical of the way Anathema have changed and grown over the last two albums. I say ignore this sentimentality. Any fan of intelligent, emotional heavy rock will love this band if they give them a try. Do yourself a favour. Buy this DVD now and become an Anathema fan!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring....sorry 21 Aug 2010
Dont get me wrong I love this band, but this terribly boring dvd put me off them big time for a long time. It is static and uninvolving and the normally wonderful live atmosphere totally lost. I wish I had never bought it.

4.0 out of 5 stars sadly not... 28 July 2007
As a long time fan of Anathema, I have long wanted to see them live, but as they never play near me, I have had to make do with this DVD. To start off with the negatives, the DVD does not contain many videos or extra features, other than a very short bit of concert footage and the video for single Pressure. However other than this, the DVD is great. It was recorded in January 04, so it is not too old or anything. It contains songs from their entire Music for Nations catalogue (Judgement, A Fine Day to Exit and A Natural Disaster). Unfortunately this means that some great songs like Sleepless and Alternative 4 are not included, but plenty of great songs are. The gig is pretty good. The band are just as good live and although they are not that interesting to watch, it is definitely worth seeing them live. The gig is about an hour and a half long so there is plenty to keep you entertained. Almost all of the songs included are excellent although I do not quite agree with letting Daniel sing Are You there? one of my least favourite Anathema songs and A Fine Day to exit would have been a welcome addition. Anyway, if you are a fan of the band and have not seen them live, this is a great way to experience it.

1.0 out of 5 stars boring 14 Jan 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I have received this DVD with expectations of a sound performance by this band, after listening to audio cds i wanted to buy the DVD it was a big mistake I have to report this effort by this band visually is boring, the vocals are shaky and off key, just simply unconvincing in sincerity, The front man is not very good at all,. he lets the whole band down, This DVD is headed for my rubbish bin its a very dissapointing purchase considering the years they have been performing Let me get back to the likes of Steven Wilson, no comparisons in that arena
