Product Description

Review

This book should be all that a therapist, either studying or already practising hypnoanalysis, will ever need. --Pat Doohan, Fellow of the National Council of Psychotherapists.

Product Description

This sequel to Volume 1 presents the clinical practitioner with the practical applications of analytical hypnotherapy. An eminently practical and comprehensive book, it provides a clear and all-embracing study of the subject, removing any mystery surrounding the practice and bringing analytical hypnotherapy into the mainstream of clinical techniques. In-depth case studies and client profiles cover cutting-edge research areas, including: - fear and anxiety disorders - sorrow and grief disorders - anger and rage disorders - the nature of childhood abuse.

This book contains a treasure trove of useful information for the analytical hypnotherapist and is required reading for students of the Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy in Ireland.
I found it hard going because of two reasons. The format of the book is to divide it into small sections and each section contains quotes from other experts in the field and also the text written by the author. This means that much the same thing is said over and over and I found the changes in font and writing style an effort to read. It felt like stop-start-stop-start all the way through. I also found the author to be unnecessarily wordy. I feel that the book could have been condensed to half the size without loosing any information.
My other criticism of the book is that considering it is subtitled 'practical applications' I found there was little practical help contained within it. There are some useful scripts to read to clients to explain to them the nature of the human mind, but there was very little practical advice on what exactly to do in various situations. This book seems to be a continuation of volume 1 which is theory.
Nevertheless, despite this drawbacks I have given the book 4 stars because it does contain a vast amount of useful information about the human mind and the various mental problems and neuroses. The sections on child abuse are particularly informative.
