‘…this don't beat yourself-up approach is very clever and sensibly, they've realised that filling a manual up with glossy pics of svelte women in freshly laundered blouses dangling Gap kids on their slim knees ain't the way to help knackered mums feel better about themselves.’
Families Magazine, May 08

‘…combining super nutrition and effective short exercise routines you can do anywhere."
Pregnancy & Parenting, May 08

Product Description

This upbeat, achievable plan helps you get back into shape after pregnancy, by combining super nutrition (including meal suggestions and dietary advice) and effective short exercise routines you can do anywhere. It’s the easy way for mums to become yummy mummies – reclaiming their bodies and losing their baby-weight safely and successfully.

A mother herself, Kate Cook understands the frustrations, self-doubts and lack of control felt by many mums, so the focus is on straightforward solutions for real lifestyles.

The plan is wrapped around a humorous ‘chic-lit’ style narrative for an immediate connection with the reader, but is easy to dip into, with clever tips, meal plans and easy exercises.

Kate offers sound advice not only on nutrition and exercise, but on how to find the time, energy and motivation to get going and keep going. There are stories from real mums throughout, to reinforce the life-coaching elements, helping you to save time and stay sane and focused.

This book came recommended by a pregnancy magazine which is what made me chose it over several others and I found it to be a total waste of money. The tone was patronising and irritating throughout, and I didn't find that the diet and lifestyle tips fit in with the experience of most young mums. I agree that after giving birth we all need pampering and me time, but most of us are on a budget and statutory maternity pay so can't afford to treat ourselves to a whole load of new makeup or new exercise clothes, even if it would be nice! I found the same goes for the diet plan - especially in these credit crunching times most of us are trying to cut down on our shopping bills, not buy a long list of items from health food shops. The exercise tips were ok, but most of them (ie the pram walks) are common sense anyway and nothing you couldn't pick up at your local aerobics class!

Light Hearted 27 July 2011

I found this book in the library after having my first baby and loved it. I found it to be very light hearted and funny. You don't have to go out and buy lots of gym stuff and makeup, that's never been my thing anyway. But the advice that your scales are the work of the devil and that sensible eating, excercise and patience would get you back to more like normal was just good to read. It may well be common sense, but it's easy to get things out of proportion post birth when you feel fat, flabby and a bit yuck. I felt there were wise words that kept me from feeling that I looked hideous when my baby had only been born a month ago. I didn't go mad buying stuff I knew I wouldn't eat either, but did try to get more sensible about food with after reading the book. If you have a sense of humour and just want a bit of a funny boost from a well meaning book then I would reccomend this. I am buying it for a friend now, I think she'll appreciate it. (I have it out of the library again now that I have baby number 2)!
