About the Author
Andrew Crisell lectures in Media and Communication at the University of Sunderland. He is the author of Understanding Radio. He has also written on aspects of television history and cultural genre and has worked as a producer in local and community radio, making educational features and entertainment programmes.

This book is fantastic for anybody who is studying the History of British Broadcasting. It is informative, and not at all long-winded. As a student of Professor Crisell, I am somewhat biased, but I really enjoyed reading the book. Prof. Crisell makes a subject that seems boring from the outside very interesting, and often funny! I used it in the first year of my degree, and found it possibly the most useful and easy to read book so far!
I would totally recommend this book to any student studying Media at an undergraduate level.

I took this book on holiday to read and really enjoyed it.
The last chapter of book is now very dated. It's a shame it has not been updated: the author talks about how, one day, mobile phones may have some of the functions that computers have such as using the internet. There is no mention of things like Youtube and iTunes.
It really makes you aware of all the developments in technology in the past ten years!
