An Introduction To Syd Barrett is a brand new collection that brings together for the first time the tracks of Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett on one compilation.
David Gilmour, who originally worked with Syd Barrett on the solo albums by co-producing The Madcap Laughs and as producer of Barrett has taken the role of executive producer for the album and has, along with Damon Iddins and Andy Jackson at Astoria Studios, remixed five tracks including "Octopus", "She Took A Long Cool Look", "Dominoes" and "Here I Go", on which David Gilmour has added and played bass guitar. Pink Floyd's "Matilda Mother" also receives a fresh 2010 Mix.

Format:Audio CD
I already own these songs on other CDs but I still bought this as a collector and have to say it's infinitely more preferable to the previous Syd compilation. The problem with that one was sequencing - it seemed to have been put together at random, with no satisfactory flow whatsoever. This 'Introduction to' corrects that and would be especially invaluable to the uninitiated (I'm sure there must still be a few out there!).
The sound is great (with a few of the songs having been remixed, 'Octopus' in particular benefits from this),I can agree with the song choices (still no lovely remastered 'Vegetable Man' though!) and the packaging is cool (as done by Storm himselfish). Also the booklet contains lyrics for all the songs with attendant Floydian artwork, all in all a good product, and the songs of course are enchanting!

Format:Audio CD
I just love the music of early Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett and the other Cambridge bands of the period (especially Kevin Ayers). We were all using drugs in those days and had a great fellowship as so-called "hippies" (a misnomer, because we were ordinary guys really). Fortunately, I survived the drugs and the experimentation, and now I live (like many of you) an ordinary life. Only the music remains.
Syd Barrett is at the basis of much what is today indie music (another horrible misnomer) and even though he made music for a short time, has a large influence, in my humble opinion. The little colourful booklet alone is worth the price of the album. Thank you, David Gilmour, for your labour of love. We know that you loved the man.

Slightly disappointed
A good record spoilt by including a false start on Octopus and the inclusion of 'If its in You'.My son's quite enjoyed the record until these moments. Read more
