The authors build on this factual base to analyze the world's major environmental concerns. Offering an authoritative introduction to the key topics, a source of latest environmental information, and an innovative stimulus for debate, this is an essential book for all those studying or concerned with global environmental issues.
Major global environmental issues are brought into focus. Contemporary socio-economic, cultural and political considerations are explored and important conceptual approaches such as Gaian hypotheses and Chaos Theory are introduced. Human impact and management of the natural environment, and concerns for maintaining biodiversity are emphasised throughout.

I am studying Physical Geography at University, yet I found this book extremely helpful concerning the many topics of Global Environmental issues.
The book is up-to-date, and includes many current subjects - and unlike some other books I've read on the subject, the authors are not patronising, and do not try to turn you into an 'eco-warrior'!!! The facts are presented in a clear, yet concise way, and topics are clearly set out.
There are some extremely useful diagrams to work from, and many colour photos/plates. I also found the use of boxes very helpful.
This is ideal for all first and possibly second year University students (and the very conscientious A-level students!!) studying either Physical Geography or an Environmental Studies course, as it covers Climate, Atmospheric Change, Energy, Water Resources, Pollution, Natural Hazards, and the Human Impact on the Earth.
All in all, probably the best all-round book you can purchase for the subject - highly recommended!

Boring, dry, uninteresting text 29 Mar 2007
By emily schneider - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I had to buy this book for a Geology class I was in. It is incredibly dry, with few (if any) color photos or graphs. It turned out that the book was not remotely helpful for studying in the class - my classmates and I ended up using our notes almost exclusively to study for tests, so the book was basically worthless to me. I wish I hadn't bought it.
