Product Description

Product Description

The name Bob Essery will be familiar to nearly all railway enthusiasts and certainly anyone with an interest in either the LMS or rolling stock in general. Amongst the many classic works he has compiled is the popular series on LMS Wagons. First published in the 1980s by the original Oxford Publishing Company, both volumes of this work have been unavailable for some time. This brand new reprint is certain to take the market by storm, as many keen enthusiasts have been unable to locate a copy or unwilling to pay the high price demanded for the few original copies left on the second hand market. The book remains completely unchanged from the original; it comprises 188 pages on art paper with many hundreds of photographs and drawings examining this important subject. The depth and quality of the information included makes this one book no serious railway enthusiast will want to miss out on!

LMS wagons 27 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
For anyone who missed this book the first time around then this is for you. The book covers the LMS wagons with photos, drawings and notes about each type of wagon. If you want information on an LMS wagon for detailing purposes then the information is in the pages of this book. Mr Essery's credentials preceed him and this book is no exception.

By far the most comprehensive and detailed selection of images I have come across for the subject matter.

The historic nature of the subject of LMS wagons means the book (a reprint) cannot be considered out of date at all.

Whilst the book title suggests an "illustrated history", the captions to the excellent selection of images tend to be descriptive, referring more to differences in build details on the wagons themselves rather than a history of their lives.

However as a modellers and historians aid, it is unrivalled and therefore to be highly recommended. Many wagons included in the book are almost non existent in other literature so much can be gained in terms of both written information and rare images.

No excuse now not have more accurate models of LMSR wagons. I have tracked down & ordered V.2 to complete the set.
