This is a wonderful and witty piece of work. If you like and listen to Baroque music and have a sense of humour, then I warn you dont drive and listen to this, you will crash the car laughing! I got this as a christmas present and listen to it for the first time when I was driving from work to home. I had to stop the car!

This is a very clever work, Peter Schickele explores and uses the music to make you laugh like no one else done before. I strongly recommend it.

Like another reviewer has noted Schickele's Quadlibet is a gem, made wholly of musical quotes, but the whole album plays and mis-plays on every classical and baroque music cliché.

Not for the totally uninitiated, but if you've listened to Beethoven's 5th, a little Eine Kleine and at least started Schubert's 8th Symphony you'll find something to smile at here. And the more you recognise the funnier it is!

The sound quality's not great. It sounds like it's come off an imperfect vinyl and been quite crudely cut or skipped, but I suspect that's not in the control of the present publishers, and barely distracts from the wit and talent.

Peter Schickele writes 3 works under the guise of fictitious 'filthy baroque' magpie P D Q Bach, swiping styles and tunes from the repertoire, mixing them with impunity and defying conventional music expectations. A live concert, which turns out to be a positive thing: we have Schickele's sidesplitting intros and authentic audience responses to the musical wrong-footings. Schickele's 'own' Quodlibet is probably the musical highlight, written without a single original musical idea. Not for anyone without any classical music experience but very easy to enjoy by anyone with small familiarity, occasional Classic FM listeners very welcome along with know-alls and academics willing to let their hair down.

Anyone who loves and knows anything about music should own this. Hilarious and there's not much of this around for classical music fans.
