I would like to start by pointing out I am no relation to Graeme Phillips who has also posted a review! However, I agree with him that the publication of the first ever translation of the entire Bible in Cornish is a fantastic achievement, which none should diminish. While I am only a very elementary Cornish student, I can say that this book has a feel of quality and authority about it because of its size, cover and presentation.

I am sad it has perhaps not achieved the full acclaim it deserves in Cornwall, but this is merely down to the factionalisation and small-minded pettiness crippling the Cornish language movement. One might have hoped that some adherents of another orthography than that used in this book would have shown more Christian charity, but that is a commodity sadly lacking in Cornwall's Cornish-speaking community.

However, I hope those lacking it most will take more heed of the words of Jesus in this book than nit-picking about the orthography used "so that they may be brought to complete unity" (John 17.23).

Perhaps then the Cornish people (of which I am one) will start to live up to the words of our motto, "Onen hag Oll!" - "One and All!"

Bringing 'An Beybel Sans' to fruition was an incredible undertaking, with painstaking research of all the extant scriptural writings in Cornish through the years. It has brought together a complete, self-consistent and rich translation in Cornish for the first time. A fantastic achievement, that only now, a year on, am I realising just how immense this publication is. I'm not religious, nor Cornish, but have been studying Cornish, and other Celtic languages, for 30 years, and this is the most important publication in any of those languages in all that time (and that includes the massive 'Geiriadur yr Academi' - the Welsh Academy English-Welsh Dictionary).

Thsi translation of both the old and new testaments finally offers us a complete Cornish Bible. As ever Williams offers us a vigorous and lasting translation which embeds those already completed by Rowe. Every Cornish home should have this. This is surely a major moment for the language... an incredible achievement.

I can't comment on the quality of the translation, but I am very pleased that there is a Cornish translation in existence. Given that it took the author from 2003-11 or so, I definitely feel inclined to buy it, knowing what hard work translation can be.

It is an orthography that no-one uses , the Cornish is a hybrid , 'Kernglish' if you like. We need new material in this language , not outdated religious works. It would have had some merit if it had been published in the Standard Written Form, but it might as well have been written in Klingon for the value this book has for the Cornish Language, best to be avoided .
