Product Description

Review

"...this is an excellent book, giving good advice on how to become a skilled, thoughtful and knowledgeable physician and hence how to become a MRCP (UK)"

Journal of the Royal College of Physicians of London, on the previous edition

"The case–by–case approach is useful in preparing for Medicine finals. Together with the examination routines, the book becomes a kind of alternative textbook to conventional clinical examination books such as McCleods."

2nd Opinion, The Magazine of the Scottish Medical Schools

"...an invaluable companion to undergraduates in medical finals. It is easy to filter out the more obscure cases but this being said, the vast majority of the information is relevant to House Officers–to–be. This book is excellent value for money; the buy is well worth it."

Leech Y Gelen, University of Wales College of Medicine Gazette

Product Description

The first edition of An Aid to the MRCP Short Cases rapidly estabished itself as a classic and has sold over 25,000 copies.

The aims of this revised and extended second edition are the same as those of the first: to provide a comprehensive guide for those preparing for the short cases section of the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians examination. The MRCP examination is a major hurdle for all trainee hospital physicians and has a failure rate of over 70%.

The largest part of the book consists of 200 short cases that are presented in order of frequency of their occurrence in the examination (based on an extensive survey of successful candidates). The clinical features of each case are fully covered and supported by illustrations and photographs. The emphasis throughout the book is on examination technique and how to present the clinical information in the style that the examiners expect. In short, it is an indispensable guide for anyone preparing for this critical examination.

A very good book detailing general examination methods for specific systems (in the first part of the book) as well as examinations and clinical findings for particular diseases (in the second part). The layout of the book, presenting the most common diseases earliest in the book, allows structured revision of topics. Each section for a particular disease has an example of how to present the findings and a list of salient clinical findings. This is one of the essential books for Part II MRCP clinical exam, along with 250 short cases in clinical Medicine (Baliga)

This must be the bible for the MRCP final section. Although the 1998 edition does not take the new "PACES" format into account rumour has it that another edition is imminent.
The book details the most likely conditions encountered in MRCP in order of occurrance - giving oodles of helpful hints on examination / presentation on the way. Not only that - the writing style makes it feel as though somebody really understands what you are going through!
I will be buying this book (2003 edition) despite passing the exam and were I to buy only one book prior to "PACES" this would be it. It really is the nearest substitute to standing in front of the pateint.

A must for anyone taking MRCP part2 21 Oct 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
It is an excellent review of all the possible short cases for MRCP part 2. It is organised according to the frequency of occurence of the case and also includes experiences of several examinees which are extremely helpful. In the recent times, I do not know of a person who passed MRCP without using this book.
An incredible book 5 Jun 1999

You don't need this book to pass the ABIM. But this book will make you a better clinician.
An excellent, very practical approach to physical diagnosis 4 Feb 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Easily the BEST practical guide for physical diagnosis of all. A MUST for all physicians and trainee house staff, whether or not they are taking any examinations. The authors present an entirely different way of practising physical diagnosis, that is simple and easy to repeat.

Cases are listed in the order of their frequency of appearance in the MRCP examination and the skills and methods of physical examinaton are centered around the diagnosis itself.

Also, the methods focused on completing the entire examination of a case within a short period of time, which is key in acheiving success in the MRCP exam.

A wonderful book overall.
