This is very compact and looks similar to some cheaper versions that are available but there are two key differences:
1) it can be used for reliable data transfer (e.g. phone synch)
2) both plugs are moulded whereas cheaper versions sometimes use clip-on shrouds that fall to bits
Note that this works exactly the same way as the factory lead (but is obviously much neater) - in order to work for data the USB data connections are not shorted internally. This means that it will only charge in USB mode if connected to a USB port but will charge in AC mode if connected to a genuine (or suitable) mains charger. Some other cables do short the data connections (or only have 3 wires to begin with) so the phone will always charge as if connected to AC but then:
a) it can draw too much power from your PC and
b) it won't work for data (or won't work reliably)
If the short length (2.6' / 79cm) is enough for what you want and you need a really compact cable then this is ideal. If you need something a bit bigger look at the UltimateAddons 1.8 metre extra long retractable Sync and Charge USB Cable for HTC Desire HD.

Bought this for my HTC Desire, and although the plug is the correct type, the fitting was way too snug and refused to actually go in. I pressed as hard as I dare to try and get the plug to locate into the phone, but in the end I thought there was a significant risk of breaking the phone, so gave up.
I have a colleague with a Blackberry which has the same socket, and it fitted that OK (if a little tightly), so I just passed it on to him. So I reckon the plug is out of spec by 1/20mm or something - there was nothing visible to the naked eye. It may fit your phone, I may have just been unlucky.

This worked fine to start with - it's a great idea. It lasted two months and then packed up completely. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I can't recommend it as a result.

works fine on huawei ideos x5
The cable seems to work fine both for transfer and charging on a huawei ideos x5. I can't comment on the durabiity yet ...but looks decent for the money.
