Product Description

Product Description

This acclaimed biography traces her story from her childhood in North London, through to her eventful time at the Sylvia Young Theatre School. It follows her as she takes early steps to fame under the management of Pop Idol guru Simon Fuller and then signs her first deal with Island Records. Her bestselling second albumn Back to Black has earned her growing international acclaim, including an incredible 5 awards at the 2008 Grammys in Los Angeles. With original interviews and revealing anecdotes included along the way, Amy Winehouse - The Biography tells the gripping 'behind the scenes' story of this living legend. Chas Newkey-Burden is the first biographer to chart the rise of this extraordinary performer and wild, rebellious character. His compelling portrait is an exclusive look at the life of the country's greatest living singer. She told us she was trouble, but we know that she's so good.

5.0 out of 5 stars amy winehouse, 26 Jun 2009

Fab book, great read, perfect for a summer holiday. Well researched, entertaining to the last! Great read for both fans and cynics alike!

Chas newkey-Burden proves again that he has the talent and energy to take on biographies of women who are both sainted and demonised by the press.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, 9 May 2009
I loved this book. It's insightful, easy to read and has some nice photos (which of course are the first thing anyone looks at when purchasing a book, or is that just me?)

A must for any Amy fans. Especially the positivity and sense that she's going to be ok.

5.0 out of 5 stars I didn't think there was anything new to know about her but this book showed me a different side, 1 April 2008
I'm not a massive Amy Winehouse fan but I got this book for a plane ride because I am familiar with the author's writing (loved his Great Email Disasters) and yes I appreciated his humourous take. Chas is certainly passionate about Amy's talent yet detached enough to be honest and revealing about her life, and yes he's teasing at times but it's in a big brother kind of way and harmless. Who could write about her crazy adventures without a few funny asides? It is done with much fondness so I'd say it adds a nice touch to the book. I'd also say this is a fun book more than an analysis of her music, the anecdotes and dramas were interesting but muso types might have wanted some more about how tracks were laid down etc but it all depends what you're after because really it's not that kind of book except in a couple of parts. If you want the personal side of her life and the adventures, this book gives you those in a funny way. It was perfect for me for what it was, a holiday read.
