Book Description

5 Oct 2011
As known for her fraught personal life as her chart-topping songs, Amy Winehouse, who died at the age of 27 in July 2011, was one of the most compelling vocalists in the world. But despite this fact, it was her self-destructive excesses that made headlines. Drinking binges, self-harm, eating disorders, drug abuse, and a turbulent marriage overshadowed her music even as her record sales soared, and the media watched eagerly as Amy s world imploded. This richly illustrated biography tells her story in full, from childhood through to the pleasures and pains of superstardom, her blazing talent, the years she lost to her addictions, the final days before her death, and the legacy of her raw and heartfelt music.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love Amy, you must buy this book... 16 Sep 2012
By Emily
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I would say that this book contains a fabulous balance between the amount of reading required and the imagery contained within the pages. I bought two copies of this book - one for me to read and one to cut up for my Amy Winehouse scrapbooks. From a biographical perspective, this book deals with the life of an unforgettable English icon from her childhood as a cheeky rogue to the tragic drug and alcohol addictions she battled so publicly and her untimely death at the age of twenty-seven. The pictures included throughout feature Amy as a young woman finding her feet in the musical arena through to the more unpleasant images of her looking troubled and lost. Despite this, I do feel that this book is a fantastic jewel in the crown of merchandise available regarding Amy Winehouse. I would strongly recommend this to anyone who wants to keep Amy Winehouse and her indelible talent in their hearts and minds forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book with a lot o great photos. 25 Sep 2012

I have read several good and several bad biographies on Amy and I have to say that this falls in the category of a good one. The writer took his time researching Amy and really went well into detail about her life in this book. I appreciated that this book stayed away from the "tabloid" aspects of Amy's life and the negativity that followed her in her public life and instead touched on what was going on for her personally without judgement and is fair to say didn't drag her name throughout he mud, but didn't sugar coat what was going on either. Her early life is well documented in this book as well as her achievements. I wish there would have been more material on what she was doing in her later years that was as well detailed as her early years, but I do not blame the author for that as I believe a lot of what went on in the last few years of her life really is hard information to obtain outside a tabloid tell all. The book was fair and honestly written and there were a ton of photos in the book that were fantastic and showed the many faces of Amy that we all have seen, from a young child and fresh faced new artist to the beehived wearing and tattooed star she became. There are so few good and fair books written about Amy and of the books I have read about her, this ranks very high on the books I would recommend to another person.

Amy Fans, don't miss this book. Most everything you could want (or need!) to know. Great presentation and quality to the work: glossy pages, fantastic pics of our girl Amy. It's always on loan to someone! Great book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good buy 27 Jan 2013

I was pleased as well as the receiver of this gift. I suggest doing business with this seller as the items I have purchased have been of good or better quality than advertised. You won't be disappointed. The only reason it did not get five stars is that it was received WELL after expected delivery date.
