Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Kat Bjelland turned down a job in old sparring partner Courtney Love's new all-girl band Bastard to make Amusia and right now, it seems the ex-Babes in Toyland singer has made the right choice. Bjelland hasn't sung with this passion and range for a long time now, not since the Babes' incredible 1992 major label debut "Fontanelle". Yet Amusia could top even that, with its range of bent lullabies (the eerie "Rasacea"), happy-sad exorcisms ("Gone Away", "Anathema") and general welter of impassioned, jarring emotion. Perhaps the presence of husband Glen Mattson on drums has helped to give Bjelland a new confidence to match the punk rock angst. Who knows? But where before the Babes could sometimes sound one-dimensional in their righteous anger, this is definitely a multi-dimensional, inspirational experience. --Jerry Thackray

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most perfect albums of the past year., 9 Jul 2001
By A Customer
For people like me who can find a lot of music released bland (not necasarily bad just bland) this is the album for you. It contains everything from almost straight punk to the greatest takes on Lennon and the Beatles since Siouxsie & the banshees cover of Dear Prudence. Straight from the start it is a record whos shear energy is almost staggering with the listener being forced from one end of 47 minutes to the other. A great example of this energy comes in the intro (or near lack of) to Gone Away, almost immeadiatly after putting the CD in the machine you are forced into the tempest that is the world of Katastrophy Wife. The speed and energy of tracks such as Gone Away and Git Go are perfectly contrasted by the slower tracks such as Rosacea and Haunted. Rosacea on it's own would come high in the musical highlights of the year. Kat's singing leaps out at you, at the same time beautiful and twisted like Escher's visions of chaos. To conclude this is an album that will take over your life and force you to look differently at everything. It's sound is both familiar and innovative with more than one suprise along the way (look out for the hidden track). If your looking for an album to counteract the effects of a pop filled world then this is definitely for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kat returns, it was worth the wait, 12 Jul 2001
By A Customer
Kat Bjelland returns with Katastrophy Wife and somehow manages to incorporate the best elements of Babes In Toyland without sounding like Babes In Toyland. Amusia is much stronger and more focused than the final effort from Babes, hopefully, it is just the beginning of many more.
