Venus in Cancer (track 2) is amazing and thats what prompted me to find the album. The rest of the album continues the hazy thoughtfull multilayered cruiser rock theme that i really enjoy. Like a super mix of Ride and My Bloody Valentine with a newer feel, this stuff is perfect for listening to on a personal stereo whilst cruising on a train through Scotland. Or wherever you're going. Reccomended.

You cant wack bands like APOF. They are the type of band you would call "favorite band material" Its also extremely admirable how much Ferrick (the sole key band member during the recording of the album) put into his first release. He plays all the parts on his own, wrote and scripted all the songs on the album.

Basically this is your thing if you any of these bands - My Vitriol, My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins

Amusement Parks On Fire mainman Michael Feerick was 16 when he began writing
and recording this debut-playing all the instruments bar the strings.The only
comparable talent in alternative music to emerge at a similar age was Aztec
Camera leader Roddy Frame.However,Feerick is arguably much more talented than
Frame-Frame's eventual debut High Land Hard Rain had some great songs on it
but it took him nigh on twenty years to make another album as good (it was
called Surf,aging indie genius fans).The second Amusement Parks On Fire LP,
Out Of The Angeles,is by comparison rather fantastic so Feerick wins on points.
This first album starts off in breathtaking fashion with the string-led instrumental
23 Jewels which segues into Venus In Cancer,which can only be described as
'classic'(imagine Feed Me With Your Kiss-era MBV crossed with Leave Them All
Behind-era Ride)and is the undoubted highlight of this set.Venus In Cancer
then dissolves into feedback and from the fog emerges Eighty Eight,which is
great also.The 4th track Wiper is feedback indie-pop that the Mary Chain would
be proud of.After that the quality dips a little,but there is enough here to
justify purchase (Venus In Cancer especially-had this song been released in
a time more receptive of that sound then it would be spoken of in the same
tones people reserve for peak period My Bloody Valentine.
