A word of caution: if you do not like clowns and have a serious phobia of them stay well away from this film as someone dons a clown outfit and would give you nightmares. If you are not afraid of them, read on to this review. I picked this title up at my rental store and thought it would be a good scary movie for a Friday night, though I'm not a big fan of clowns! It's about three girls who were friends with this mentally disturbed kid but soon forgot about him as they grew up but he didn't. Each of them will get chased by the man that is out for revenge of the constant bullying and finds it amuseing to watch them suffer the toture he went through. There are some scary moments in this, I screamed when one of the girls bumped against the clown costume thinking it was the person behind her. But there are many problems: the running time was shorter than what was said on the box, there really wasn't a story just a another cheaply made horror with total unknowns with added gore and mild scares. So in all, if you like horror movies with clowns then this is for you but from above stay away if you hate them.

By KM TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Blu-ray
To be honest, I didn't expect much from AMUSEMENT, being a straight-to-DVD movie with no big stars in and a pretty much unknown director, but what we have here is a fairly creepy and well made horror that was nail-bitingly tense and full of unexpected twists and turns. It is basically 3 seemingly unrelated short stories, each about 20 minutes apiece, which then tie up together for the last 25 minutes finale. The first story is about a girl named Shelby and her boyfriend who are on a road trip and join a convoy on the highway to help each other along the way. At the service station, the truck and two cars in the convoy meet up and this is where Shelby realises that the trucker has someone held captive in the back of his truck. The next story is about another girl named Tabby who is babysitting her two nephews. In the guest bedroom where she is staying there are a large number of clown dolls, one of which is life-size and very life-like and creepy. The next story is about Lisa who is concerned for the unusual and out-of-character disappearance of her roommate.

I really enjoyed the first two stories in this film - the one with the clown in particular. They were both very suspenseful and quite scary (if you've got a fear of clowns then don't watch this!). The third story however was pretty pointless and did not live up to the standards set in the first two at all. It was slow and just pretty rubbish really. The last half of the film which ties the three together wasn't bad, if the whole movie had of been just this though then I would be rating this DVD 2 stars now as it was just a SAW rip-off really but without it's clever traps. Overall this is a fairly entertaining film that was actually much better than I expected it to be. Definitely worth a rent at least.

Tense Confusion Abounds 26 April 2009
Format:DVD
This film is all-out tense from start to finish - if you liked the claustrophobic bookend-scares of 'Vacancy' then this would be a film for you, at least in terms of keeping you covering your eyes for the next jump.

The film is divided into four sections; the first three tell the separate stories of the three protagonists who end up ensnared by the lead villain, a depraved schoolfriend who (seemingly for no reason) has it in for them. The first three sections make good use of light and sound to maximise fright and tension, particularly in the evil clown sequence, though they give the plot a disjointed feel.

The fourth and longest section features the girls trapped in a cavernous underground mental institution and the plot reverts completely to Saw-style torture porn.

There are some hideously gaping plot holes - why would the trucker in section one be taking a random girl to rehab? If the police and investigators had discovered the underground cavern as the film leads us to believe, why was backup not called when they ran into trouble? Why was the psychiatrist interviewing the girls in supposedly safe rooms that then led out directly back into the caverns within which the clown was lurking? In section three when Lisa sneaks into the 'hotel,' how does the villain double back and beat her to the asylum floor she finds herself in, when the film depicts her running directly up there?

The film is good fun for a rainy saturday night and will certainly give you some all-out frights, but ultimately this is let down by its poor plotting - Saw without the gore.

No Laughing Matter...Sorta
By the trailers I'd seen of Amusement, I'd assumed I'd be getting the usual teen slash-a-thon; long on clichés and short on originality. Read more

... What to say, but misleading.
I will say, granted, that the picture on the front of the cover makes this look worthy of watching. But the reality of replay value with this is really slim. Read more

I don't see why there are so many negative reviews of this. I personally really enjoyed it and yes there are some plots holes, but the film does make sense. Read more

Totally misleading DVD cover, the film has too many plot holes.
I wasn't amused with "Amusement". To give this movie an above average rating is a waste of stars. Sure, visually the movie looks nice and like most people mentioned the Clown... Read more

This is not an outstanding film. However, I did enjoy it right from the start. It wasn't brilliant, but I thought that the acting and the scripting were pretty good. Read more
