To be honest, I didn't expect much from AMUSEMENT, being a straight-to-DVD movie with no big stars in and a pretty much unknown director, but what we have here is a fairly creepy and well made horror that was nail-bitingly tense and full of unexpected twists and turns. It is basically 3 seemingly unrelated short stories, each about 20 minutes apiece, which then tie up together for the last 25 minutes finale. The first story is about a girl named Shelby and her boyfriend who are on a road trip and join a convoy on the highway to help each other along the way. At the service station, the truck and two cars in the convoy meet up and this is where Shelby realises that the trucker has someone held captive in the back of his truck. The next story is about another girl named Tabby who is babysitting her two nephews. In the guest bedroom where she is staying there are a large number of clown dolls, one of which is life-size and very life-like and creepy. The next story is about Lisa who is concerned for the unusual and out-of-character disappearance of her roommate.
I really enjoyed the first two stories in this film - the one with the clown in particular. They were both very suspenseful and quite scary (if you've got a fear of clowns then don't watch this!). The third story however was pretty pointless and did not live up to the standards set in the first two at all. It was slow and just pretty rubbish really. The last half of the film which ties the three together wasn't bad, if the whole movie had of been just this though then I would be rating this DVD 2 stars now as it was just a SAW rip-off really but without it's clever traps. Overall this is a fairly entertaining film that was actually much better than I expected it to be. Definitely worth a rent at least.
