I've been a huge fan of the Lonely Planet guides for over 20 years now, so buying this before my weekend trip to Amsterdam was par for the course.
When the book arrived, I had my reservations as the new format and style is not user friendly.
When I got there, I ended up throwing the book away as it was complicated and pretty hard to find information on the most basic of facts on some of the churches, museums, canals etc.
Can't understand why the book was split into regions in Amsterdam (North, South, east, West etc). I was only there for a weekend and all I wanted was the top 10 must sees and the names of a few good hotels and restaurants.
The back up guide was produced by DK and it was amazing - first time I hasve bought/ used this guide and it was brilliant.
Met a fellow traveller from Oz there who said exactly the same as me.
Please save your money and buy the DK Top 10 guide instead.
Lonely Planet - you've just lost a very loyal customer!
