Most usefull guide, 15 April 2003
Every Dorling Kindersley Guide has been a great and interesting book... and delightful to have and use, even if you are not traveling to that location, but are only interested in learning more! The Guides are well organized in a logical and easy to follow manner. They are beautifully illustrated, well developed with accurate information (it is unusual for hotel and restaurant information to be that accurate), have enough history to help the reader understand the people and cultural background, and have a lot of useful travel information and useable maps in the appendixes. The really great attraction to this book is several fold; it is: ............Very complete ............Easy to read ............Beautifully and artistically completed ............Good shopping, safety and other tips ............Gorgeous photographs too numerous to list.

Eyewitness Travel Guide : Amsterdam, 7 Sep 2003
I should have bought this book before going to Amsterdam back in August. But as I'm going to go back next spring this is the 'only' book I need. Not too big in size, this book is packed with photographs and really good illustrations, and so easy to follow. The is also a nice section to the book 'Beyond Amsterdam' so if you were thinking of some day trips further away, then there is useful information to hand. DK books in my opinion have always lived up to my expectations, and this one is no exception. If you are planning to go to Amsterdam, then this is the only book you need - you won't be disapointed, I highly recommend it!

Excellent guide, 31 Aug 2007
This guide starts with a very interesting history of the city. The information is given in a very detailed yet accesible fashion throughout the book. It is presented by dividing the city up into seven areas and it gives a complete overview of the history and sights of the areas.
It recommends some superb restaurants and hotels (though we had already booked when we bought the guide so i cannot comment on the hotels it recommends). It also gives suggested walks around the city and day trips out of the city complete with mini guides to such places as Haarlem and Utrecht.
It gives invaluable information on travel in and around, to and from amsterdam. And the maps are clear and very easy to follow.
Very nicely illustrated with diagram maps and photography. It leaves nothing to be desired.
