My Father (aged 88) had stopped having telephone conversations because his hearing wasn't good enough and he could never hear what was being said. My Mother (aged 90) would sit in the hallway in the cold, where the fixed phone is, and be uncomfortable while on her hours of calls. A year ago I bought them these phones and they both say how wonderful they are. As wireless phones they work brilliantly and my Mother can sit in comfort or even in the garden when its fine, with no sign of any reception problems. My Father has discovered that his hearing is not as bad as he thought and can have telephone conversations with his family again which is great. I live 250 miles away and was hardly having any contact with him.
I recently got another set for my Mother-in-Law who is 88. She too is so impressed by the clarity and the ability to move around the house while talking. She said it was one of the best things she has bought recently. She keeps one handset in the kitchen and the other upstairs and she takes that one to bed each evening. I've set that so the ring tone is quieter.
The phones are easy to use although they do have more features than either set of parents need and, in both cases, the phones had to be set up for them - instruction manual is complicated for elderly people not particularly familiar with technology. The default ringing tone volume is extremely loud and frightened the life out of my Dad when he first heard it - so that's one of the first things to adjust. One other point I particulalry liked - I entered all of my m-in-l's contact numbers into one phone which is a bit tedious but was then able to copy the entire memory to the other phone very easily.
Overall, highly recommended for the elderly - but actually, great for any age if you like a good sized phone with easy buttons and a clear display.
Later:
Surprised to see no other reviews of these phones - assumed others would have reviewed and I was just adding to the wealth of experience! So to help anyone looking for phones for older people, I should have added the features that set these apart from the many other cordless phone sets available. The handsets are large with large buttons, easy to hold and have good clear displays. Once set up, they are very easy to use to make and receive calls and they have caller display and a light which flashes with the ringer. There is a loudness boost button for the hard of hearing and can be used with or without hearing aids. They also have two quick call buttons for emergency or regularly used numbers and a profile feature so they can be set up for two different people with different hearing abilities. Hope this helps.
