Just finished devouring the DVDs, and wow... I am AMAZED.
These guys are phenomenal... their musicianship is absolutely staggering, and [as a vocalist], my appreciation of Tomi's versatility has shot even further through the roof after watching how effortlessly he delivers pitch-perfect, honest, energetic performances throughout, switching from clean vox to growls so perfectly.
The concerts are filmed really well - not too many fast cuts that make your eyes bleed, but it's also never boring. You really get a sense of the band's energy and chemistry during live shows. And wow, they are TIGHT. If they ever come back to The States [please come back!], I would travel hundreds of miles to see them!
The live performances are also mixed every bit as clearly as a studio recording, which is great, because you get two CDs of all songs from those shows. For me, this is a real treat, because you get to hear songs like "My Kantele," "Alone" and "Black Winter Day" sung by Tomi, who brings such warmth and depth to these older songs that [IMO] was not present on the original albums. The documentary is also fascinating and fun.
Truly, after watching this DVD/CD set, I have fallen even more in love with Amorphis.
