Great package 21 Jun 2011
By Wayne
Format:DVD
Amorphis fans have waited a long time for a video release and finally we get a release worthy of this great band.

For those that don't know amorphis they are from finland and began life in the early nineties as a death metal band. Even on their early albums it was very clear this was no ordinary death metal band as they really stood out from crowd incorporating a great sense of melody and the use of various instruments not usually associated with the genre. Over the years they have matured and evolved into something quite unique, a touch progressive, a little death metal with a pinch of folk, a lot more clean vocals and a sense of songwriting that really should see these guys up amoungst the big league of rock bands today.

So, back to this blu ray. As I mentioned above this is a great package, bursting with content. We get two complete live shows from the previous album 'skyforger' tour. We get every music video the band have made to date plus a great in depth documentry lasting over an hour which goes into a lot of detail regarding the bands history, plus a couple of shorter interview clips.

The reason I decided to knock off a star and give this a solid 4 is for a couple of things that slightly spoiled it. First off only the first live show has a PCM 5.1 soundtrack. It sounds fantastic with my home cinema set up but I was really disappointed that the second live concert only had a 2.0 mix. I chose the blu ray over the DVD release because I have a very decent set up and feel that, when done right music blu rays really benefit from a decent uncompressed audio mix so to not have both concerts in 5.1 was a disappointment.

Secondly, the DVD package included both concerts on cd which the blu ray package does not. This is a complete pain as the CDs haven't been released separately either. I'm getting a bit cheesed off in general that most music blu rays these days seem to be missing CDs that are usually packaged with the DVD counterpart.

Overall this is still worth the money and a worthy addition to my blu ray collection. Picture quality was nice but not as good as it could have been but sharp enough. To be honest this is all about the music so I can live with that. A must have for amorphis fans and a recommendation to anyone who loves good music.

A True Gem for Amorphis Fans 22 Aug 2010
By Shelley Stoker - Published on Amazon.com
Just finished devouring the DVDs, and wow... I am AMAZED.

These guys are phenomenal... their musicianship is absolutely staggering, and [as a vocalist], my appreciation of Tomi's versatility has shot even further through the roof after watching how effortlessly he delivers pitch-perfect, honest, energetic performances throughout, switching from clean vox to growls so perfectly.

The concerts are filmed really well - not too many fast cuts that make your eyes bleed, but it's also never boring. You really get a sense of the band's energy and chemistry during live shows. And wow, they are TIGHT. If they ever come back to The States [please come back!], I would travel hundreds of miles to see them!

The live performances are also mixed every bit as clearly as a studio recording, which is great, because you get two CDs of all songs from those shows. For me, this is a real treat, because you get to hear songs like "My Kantele," "Alone" and "Black Winter Day" sung by Tomi, who brings such warmth and depth to these older songs that [IMO] was not present on the original albums. The documentary is also fascinating and fun.

Truly, after watching this DVD/CD set, I have fallen even more in love with Amorphis.

Everything you would expect from an Amorphis Live Performance 18 July 2010
By Areg Shahbazian - Published on Amazon.com

The moment the first song kicks off, you're hooked. You will not want to do anything but experience this for its entirety. This group is so strong together, and it just keeps getting better. Frontman Tomi Joutsen delivers flawlessly, (when does he not?) and Amorphis will take you for a ride for hours on 2 dvds. Must-have for all Amorphis fans!

A must have for any amorphis fan,the DVD shows why the band have remained as reference for almost 20 years in the music business, the show is pretty dinamic and the sound is great for a DVD. it has a great Elegy medley and of course, the classic Black Winter Day. Dont think to much whit this one im sure you'll not be disspointed.
