... you can take this in context as an extraordinarily rare and timeless piece of footage of a legendary and hugely influential band at the peak of their lysergically enhanced powers.

no, you won't see it on MTV. so much the better

This should never have been allowed past quality control. Poor visual with single camera shot of band, blurry images, poor sound quality and only about 20 minutes long and thats it!

'Essential Viewing' 15 Mar. 2011
By Steve Zubal - Published on
Format: DVD Verified Purchase
In trying to fully understand the origin of Amon Duul...A picture is worth ten thousand words! Moreover these pictures move. This amazing video recorded during the summer of 1968 captures the seven core members that would eventually call themselves Amon Duul II still in embryonic form. They would go on to record 1969s Phallus Dei. Deiter Serfas then left to help form Embryo with Christen Bouchard, whilst the remaining members followed on with 'Yeti' in 1970. This is raw video frought with technical problems...horrible by todays standards. Some of the rented equipment failed, the band (obviously enraptured i.e. trippin') would'nt stop playing, Renate seems to notice someone trying to get their attention but she seems uncertain what to do. I love this video, though I can't award 5 stars due to the condition the film is in. During the latter half there are some black spaces that last quite a few seconds. The band footage is interspearsed with sceenes of a sunrise, different views of the sun, landscape shots then a sunset. It seems like someone should have a copy of this film thats in better condition, after all it won first prize at an international film festival. But then again it was 1968 things were just a lil' crazy. The sound quality is good not great, there's a few skips, and on my disc audio and video are'nt in sync though you only notice it clearly a few times...I found it amusing. Also you can play your CD (title track only) in sync with the video, no it's not perfect but it's interesting trying to mesh the two. You need both DVD and CD players of course. Renate, Chris and Sharat are the main focal points, and you'll clearly see the role Sharat played in the early band, (dude goes off on the bongos). Renate is so cool, see the way she takes the tambourine from the "zoning" Sharat or the way she has Dave Anderson rollin', it's a beautiful thing. Chris plays guitar, violin and some type of mouth harp, clearly the musical director. Then there's John wailing a 12 string acoustic as hard as he can in the face of two relentless drummers. This is a stone cold trip. If your a strait person and you want to see the other side and remain strait buy this and 'The Monkees' 'Head'...Just don't foget to remember that it may remind you!

Great for what it is 9 May 2006

It may seem a little out-dated but it is 37 years old but for what is it's great, and what is it. It is a Great krautrock, psych, prog legend of a group in their early days on film and who would thought that this even existed . If you love the band as I do don't delay get it in some parts you tell it's 37 years old but pretty fair quality . ProgMark
