Enter The Gateway To Hell

A new dimension in ultimate evil has been added to the story of what has probably become the world's most notorious haunted house, in Amityville, New York State.

A magazine writer's investigation into a siance turns to horror when an abandoned well beneath the basement floor turns out to be a gateway to hell. Look out for an early screen appearance of Meg Ryan as the rebellious teenager intrigued by the legend of the Amityville curse

1.0 out of 5 stars Shoddy transfer of a weaker entry in the Amityville franchis, 5 Jun 2001

Its Amityville 3D! Only without the 3D, naturally, and a poor transfer to boot. No effort at all has been made to clean up or enhance the film for its DVD debut, resulting in a washed out appearance, and its presented full screen, with awful framing. Despite this, there are a few enjoyable scenes and its fun to see the obvious 3D moments, even if they are now flat. The DVD has no extras apart from scene access. Couldn't they at least have included the trailer? Let's hope for a rerelease at some point, remastered and full aspect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Film, 4 Nov 2001

This review is from: Amityville III - the Demon [DVD] [1984] (DVD)
"Amityville III" originally titled Amityville 3D, which was originally presented in 3D in the early 80's. Well, the movie was released at a time when "slasher" films where at it's peek e.g. "Halloween", "Friday the 13th" etc. This movie seemed to have been done sometimes during the late 60's. It had no gore at all, and went on like a mystery-investigation thing. The only basic reason for watching it at that time was for it's great 3D effects.
Now, the problem with this DVD lies in the picture and sound quality, which are very inferior. The colors seem to be washed out, and the sound is rather weak. The movie is quite good, has the right atmosphere for a good old "Haunted House" film & the acting is convincing. I believe that this should be re-released in its original "Widescreen" edition with enhanced sound and picture quality. Recommended.
