Absolutely fantastic even now,i can remember watching it when i was young and it is as good then as it is now.
With this box set you get the old version as well as he new which was good so you can compare the two my vote still goes to the older version well worth the money if your into horror movies as i am.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! 13 Jan 2013

Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Comes with bonus documentaries that include interviews with the Lutz's and others. This is one of my all time favourite scares so I'm thrilled with this edition and the added extra's.

4.0 out of 5 stars scary, scary, scary. 18 Sep 2003
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
the other reviews say its hammy and cheap but all i can say is
that it and its sequel is very scary and gave me nightmares for weeks. who cares about the special effects remember it was the 70's but it still has the tension and atmospere of a good old haunted house tale. Stands up to repeated viewing time and time again when your in the mood for a good old scary movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amityville Horror 9 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
Fans of this francise will love the orginal, although the special effects maybe dated by todays standards you'll still be in for some shocks along the way... An all time haunted house classic, forget the haunting and the house on haunted hill, this is the house that even in the 80's will make it's 90's counter parts look pail and class less...

5.0 out of 5 stars 1979 vs. 2005! 6 Sep 2014
You definitely get what you paid for here. I am not sure where to begin
this review. The alleged true story for those who don't know, is a family
who move into a big house that a few centuries ago Indians were mis
fortunately slaughtered on... The family in the 28 days they were there
experience frightening things like red eyes peering in through a window,
ghosts, nightmares and blah blah blah1

The original is dated but true to the novel. Watching it again the other
night though it seems more eerie than the remake. Far more convincing.

The remake with Ryan Reynolds was obviously made for entertainment
reasons but is still a good horror fest. Not true to the novel and hardly true
to the real story. It is still decent entertainment though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Amityville Horror 1979 and 2005 films 25 Nov 2008
By Hunter
To answer the question as to what is on this 2 dvd set:

Amityville Horror (Dir. Stuart Rosenberg, 1979) and Amityville Horror (Dir. Andrew Douglas, 2005).

Amityville Horror (Dir. Stuart Rosenberg, 1979): The Long Island colonial house on the river's edge seemed perfect. Quaint, spacious and affordable, it was just what George and Kathy Lutz had been looking for. But looks can be deceiving...and their new dream home soon becomes a hellish nightmare as the walls begin to drip blood and satanic forces haunt them with sheer, unbridled evil. Now, with their lives - and their souls - in danger, the Lutz's must run as fast as they can from the home they once lived...or fall prey to its terrifying power!

Amityville Horror (Dir. Andrew Douglas, 2005): On November 13, 1974, Suffolk County Police received a frantic phone call that led them to 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, Long Island. Inside the large Dutch Colonial house, they discovered a horrific crime scene that shattered the landscape of the typically peaceful community: an entire family had been slaughtered in their beds. In the days that followed, Ronald DeFeo, Jr., confessed to methodically shooting his parents and four siblings with a rifle while they slept, claiming 'voices' in the house drove him to commit the grisly murders.

One year later, George (Ryan Reynolds) and Kathy Lutz (Melissa George) and their children moved into the house thinking they'd found their dream home. But shortly after settling in, bizarre and unexplainable events began to occur -- nightmarish visions and haunting voices from an evil presence still lurking within the house.

4.0 out of 5 stars Haunted from beyond the grave 4 July 2009
Amityville!.. Yes i have been to Long Island, New York, 1980, but NEVER to a house like this!...based on a true story..I would have felt something strange BEFORE i buy..This place has everything sinister....Millions of Flies in the winter season..doors banging..the 'Well' below the basement..and then the blood oozing out of the walls..this house is,or was, built on something evil.. Great value for the 2005 remake also.
