A Top 10 Kindle Bestseller from a New York Times Bestselling Author!
London, 1666: Amethyst Goldsmith makes dazzling jewelry, but her future isn't nearly as bright as the pieces she creates. Though custom dictates she wed her father's apprentice, her heart rebels against the match. In mere days Amy will be condemned to a stifling, loveless marriage, and she sees no way out--until the devastating fire of 1666 sweeps through London, and tragedy lands her in the arms of a dashing nobleman who knows a diamond in the rough when he sees it...

Colin Chase, the Earl of Greystone, has his future all figured out. He's restoring his crumbling castle and estate to its former glory, and the key to its completion is his rich bride-to-be. But the Great Fire lays waste to his plans, saddling him with trouble--in the form of a lowly shopkeeper's daughter with whom he's most inconveniently falling in love...

    More About the Author

I decided to become a writer in the third grade (or, as my Canadian friends call it, grade three), after winning a "Why My Mother is the Greatest" essay contest and having my entry published in a major newspaper. Seeing my words in print was a thrill! But everyone told me it's too hard for novelists to get published, so after college I spent fourteen years as the CEO of my own jewelry store chain before writing my first book. A mistake? Maybe...but my first heroine, Amethyst, was a jeweler, so at least I took advantage of that wise old saying, "Write what you know." And I learned a good lesson: Don't let other people tell you what you can or can't do!

I write humorous historical romance mostly set in England and Scotland in the 17th and 19th centuries (Restoration and Regency periods). I've been oh-so-lucky to see my books hit bestseller lists all over the world and win awards including the Golden Quill and Booklist's Top 10 Romance of the Year, making this second career a real dream come true. I live in Southern California with my husband, our three young adult children, and one constantly shedding cat, and I still think my mother is the greatest!

This is a debut book for Lauren Royal and a real hit as far as I'm concerned. She has a wonderful talent for descriptive writing and perfectly captures England during the reign of Charles II. I could almost SMELL the Great Fire of London.
The two main characters are immediately likeable - and the villan is so nasty I was calling him names out loud!
Ms Royal has obviously researched her subject well, and I couldn't put the book down until I'd finished it. Looking forward to her next offering. If you like historical romances it doesn't get much better than Amethyst.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and refreshing - a near perfect HR 24 Nov. 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A very enjoyable historical romance that's a little bit different because it's set in the Restoration.
It's love at first sight for Amethyst when she sees the handsome Colin Chase in a procession celebrating the restoration of King Charles II -Just two problems stand in their way - she is a child and a jeweller's daughter and whilst he is an aristocrat gentleman.
The story picks up a few years later when Colin visits the jewellers where Amethyst works and although he can't admit it to himself, starts to fall in love. Events gather pace as the Fire of London sweeps through London and throw Amy and Colin together...
Amethyst was refreshing on a number of levels. It was good to read a historical romance set in the Restoration, and the story never let up. Even when (spoiler alert) Amy and Colin are married , the twists don't stop coming and I thoroughly enjoyed the story right to the last page.
I read some of the 1 star reviews (on and frankly, I can only assume they were written by people who don't like or understand the HR genre. I have no hesitation in recommending this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read 27 Mar. 2014

Go ahead and give this book a go. It has a good storyline all the way through, and not what I call a "a fast page turner" as in some books to pass the waffle some books put in to bulk books out. Each page is worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable read 3 Mar. 2014

Fortunately I had the day off work today, stumbled across your book, I read this book from start to end (and reluctantly did some laundry in between), before rushing back to read further chapters in Amy and Colin's story, and very pleased I am to have found it on Kindle.

A very good read, and well written, the author has even gone to the trouble of proof reading and editing, which is such a joy for the reader, if I could give you six stars I would.

One thing I should also mention, thanks to the author who has gone to the trouble of explaining the source of her inspiration for the places used in her novel, and who the characters are loosely based on, and indeed has incorporated into her story real characters such as the paramour of King Charles, very interesting and unexpected information, the sign of a excellent writer.

I will get the follow on stories to find out what happens to the rest of the family.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A little jewel 16 May 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story was sound and nothing bugged me when I read it, but somehow I didn't care much for Amy, maybe because she was a little too perfect to me, even despite the bad events in her life.
Also, I have mixed feelings about the fact that I found the story too sweet, but then I also loved it because it was sweet !
But this aside, what really stood out for me was the interaction between the main characters. They were all extremely vibrant, and I had a great time reading the dialogues and the scenes when they were together, to the point of finding myself smiling or laughing. I think Lauren Royal did well with them, for me they completely brought the story to life, the joy and happiness one minute, the sadness and the worry the other.
Five stars for raising this many emotions in me, looking forward to Emerald and most of all Amber: Kendra is some lady, and I'm eager to see what happens to her :)
