I've only had this book for a few days and I'm amazed! I've been looking for some new tofu recipes and there are a few great ones already. I feel like I'm eating out at a wonderful vegetarian restaurant every day! This book was a great find! It is completely dairy free as well, which my other cookbooks were not. Other cookbooks substitute a lot of cheese in place of meat.

A must try is the almondaise, WOW!!! I have never tasted anything so good in my life! (It's a substitute for mayonaise)

My copy of this book is stained and the binding is starting to split. I've had it for a few years and use it at least once a week. In addition to great vegan recipes (I particularly like the "stedda beef" and "stedda tuna" creations), Marilyn Diamond does a great job of discussing nutrition, cooking methods, and natural foods. Well worth the money. I have friends who went and bought this book just because I made a gravy from it when they were visiting!

Every recipe I have tried has turned out wonderfully. I love the Almond Milkshakes, New Age Fries, Easy Baked Beans, and "Goodwiches"...can't wait to try some of the tofu "Stedda" recipes. I'm confident that everything this book offers is simply delicious and brings about the best of feelings. One would do well to invest in a copy.

When looking for a good vegetarian cookbook containing not only well balanced recipies, but delicious as well, The American Vegetarian Cookbook is one of the better ones on the market.
I have found that all of the recipies in this book which I have made, every single one has fulfiled my descriminating tastebuds! Some of the better recipies are the 'Fooled you brownies' (a well versed chocaholic said that they were very good!), Steda Tuna, Vegetable Tsimis and the Living Food Pies, (I especially like the peanutbutter bannana pie!)

Don't overlook this book just because of the dopey, disproven food combination garbage. This book is a gem, filled with wonderful, easy to prepare dishs, with lots of great ideas. For example, bet you didn't know that simply taking pieces of frozen cantalope and throwing them in a blender produces the most amazingly tasty shake. Yum. If the book didn't waste so much time with idiotic food theories, I would give it 5 stars.
