A v. Good start to this complex socio, economic, political subject. It is good to have an overview before delving into the detail, which can be confusing if the bigger picture is not understood.

The books in this series I really like as I am usually short of time, but feel they provide a quick but thorough briefing on a historical topic of interest. They are well written and get staight to the point. They give me the feeling (illusion?) that I keeping myself informed. This book on slavery is harrowing but absolutley fascinating too.
