3.0 out of 5 stars Fools rush in: 14 Dec 2009
After watching this show several times on 'Quest', my advice is to watch the first few moments introducing a new 'project' then skip to near the end and appreciate the real reason for the series - the cars.
This is a shame because there are some good craftsmen doing their jobs very well and seeing those jobs undertaken is very interesting.

This may seem silly, but once you have witnessed the incredible level of mis-communication and verbal abuse between the workers, then endured the chronic bad management of the workers by the boss (impossible deadline and jeopardy creator) which gets repeated on each episode, it all gets a bit tedious.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why can't you get the complete series??? 5 Feb 2013
This collection follows the first 3 cars built in the American Hot Rod series. They are a classic 1956 Chevy, a one-off aluminium bodied tub, and a 1932 repo Ford Coupe. If you've seen this series repeated ad infinitum on channel 38 then you'll know what to expect. If not here's a brief summary.

Boyd Coddington R.I.P. was one of the leading innovators and designers of custom made hot rods in the US. His cars had his own unique clean and minimalistic styling and they all had the attention to detail and quality of a master craftsman. The series follows the day to day somewhat chaotic events, infights and excessively tight deadlines imposed on the staff in the building of these cars.

It also gives an insight into the various stages of construction - body prep and painting; metalwork and engine/drivetrain assembly.
so for any petrolhead it's a must. The cars are fantastic.

My one complaint is that while you can get all of American Chopper - The Series, which is made by the same people, you can only get this for American Hot Rod. Please, bring the rest out as well!

4.0 out of 5 stars American Hot Rod (Beware 4:3 ratio) 21 Jan 2010
Covers just 4 'builds' from the TV Series. Disappointingly it is is in 4:3 PAL format rather than 16:9. Some of my equipment stretches the picture to fit 16:9 widescreen but when it doesn't I end up with a 4:3 square picture.
