American Dad, the animated series that follows die-hard Republican and card-carrying NRA member Stan Smith (Seth MacFarlane) and his hilariously odd family in Langley Falls, Virginia, is back to salute a fifth season of laughs.
Stan’s not-so-smart wrancine (Wendy Schaal) has an unfaltering loyalty that allows her to turn a blind eye toward Stan’s unabashed arrogance. Stan constantly butts heads with his 18-year-old daughter Hayley (Rachael MacFarlane), who knows just how to push her father’s buttons by being liberal in both her beliefs and in the amount of hippie boyfriends she chooses to date. Hayley’s 14-year-old brother is the geeky yet cocky Steve (Scott Grimes), a kid who seems to be on the constant verge of puberty but can’t quite make sense of the opposite sex.
The Smith household is rounded out by two rather unconventional members. There’s the selfish and sarcastic space alien, Roger (Seth MacFarlane), who lives in the attic and drinks like every hour is happy hour; and Klaus (Dee Bradley Baker), an attention-starved goldfish with the brain of a German guy who’s always willing to vocalise his opinions whether anyone is listening or not.
This eccentric family full of radically different personalities is just trying to find a way to love and trust each other during these increasingly unpredictable times. And with a guy like Stan in charge of our national security, it’s going to be a hilarious ride.

American Dad! is one of those shows that just keeps getting better. The show got off to a rocky start in its first series, definitely being born into its older brother Family Guy's shadow, but since then it has slowly turned into its own show, with its own style of comedy.
Now, here we are with Season 5, and I'm glad this show made it out of the early season danger zone, where animated shows always seem to be canceled. And this set has some of the best parts of the series yet. If you liked the previous seasons, then this should do the trick nicely. If you haven't seen them yet, buy them first, and see if you want to continue.
Overall, this show is not perfect. There are some little irritating character aspects, and they often have trouble filling the episode with a good B plot (although this is something that is brilliantly referenced), but at this stage, I feel that it has surpassed Family Guy in quality and now stands out on its own as one of the better current animated shows.

American Dad, like Family Guy, is a series with a 'marmite' sense of humour - if you watch one episode and like it then chances are you'll LOVE the series. The 5th series is better than ever and even on repeat viewings will continue to make you smile!

I have always loved US cartoon shows, I.e simpsons/futurama/american dad
And they are always full with loads of laughts and great episodes, They never get old and they are always fresh in my mind, They could make 500 series and I would still love watching it.
